Paper Magazine Creates Master Links to Bail Funds, BLM Groups Across the US

Paper Magazine is doing an outstanding job of tracking the waves of social unrest across America. They are not alone. Even IMG Models has a Black Lives Matter message on the front page. Alas, their link to the Change.org petition that I signed on Saturday is broken (does anybody check these things!!!).

It is hands down the biggest petition of 2020 and could become an all-time champion. On Tuesday 12:36 PM, 11,536,224 people have signed the petition: Justice for George Floyd. The point of the petition is to have the other three former officers involved in the homicide charged and hopefully, the current charges against fired officer Derek Chauvin increased from third-degree murder and manslaughter..

Two Different Autopsies

Dr. Allecia Wilson, one of the pathologists who conducted the independent autopsy, said Monday afternoon that Floyd died as a result of mechanical asphyxiation.  CBS News writes:

The independent autopsy was conducted by Wilson and Dr. Michael Baden. Baden is the former chief medical examiner of New York City, and was also hired in 2014 to conduct the autopsy of Eric Garner, a black man who died when an NYPD officer used a banned chokehold during his arrest. Both Garner and Floyd pleaded with officers that they couldn't breathe before their deaths seen on disturbing videos, and "I can't breathe" has become a rallying cry among those protesting police brutality.

But the report released later Monday by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's office said Floyd died of "cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint and neck compression." The manner of death was ruled homicide, but the office noted that "is not a legal determination of culpability or intent." A preliminary autopsy report cited earlier by prosecutors said the county medical examiner's review "revealed no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxia or strangulation."

Paper’s How to Help page is a bit dated, but still full of important links. The Official George Floyd Memorial Fund has raised $9,356,150 from 360,100 donors. Originally created for burial costs and legal fees, not only has the fund far exceeded its goal, but individuals have stepped forward to cover expenses.

Retired boxing legend Floyd Mayweather is reportedly paying for expenses for three funerals in Houston, Charlotte and Minnesota, with a fourth event planned in the future. Anzel Jennings, the CEO of Mayweather’s music label is a childhood friend of Floyd, according to People.

Many other important people black and white are stepping up with major support for the family of George Floyd and racial justice.

Paper Magazine’s links move across America with a special emphasis on bond and bail funds for protesters being arrested across America. There are Black Lives Matter links for many cities.

AOC will use this space and new posts to track the protests through the lens of links relevant to our readers.
