The news was confirmed Monday, March 17 following months of speculation about the evolving chess game supporting creative talent at LVMH. The question is whether all players will be in place in a day or two, or the completion wait goes on.

Gucci shares fell 10.7% on Friday with the announcement that Demna Gvasalia will take over as Gucci's new artistic director in July. Like the financial markets, AOC was stupefied for reasons public and private. Demna has a great opportunity to answer the naysayers with dazzling product, and we hope he succeeds.

Jonathan Anderson’s Loewe departure should not cause financial stress at LVMH, given the team waiting to replace him at Loewe, and the powerhouse opportunity that is his next assignment.

Presumably the total plan LVMH is announcing starting today will strengthen the top-tier expertise across the brand portfolio. Unlike the Gucci announcement, AOC expects LVMH shares to rise.

If all the chess pieces move as expected, it’s just another example of the strength of the LVMH approach to nurturing talent and business expertise. Last week LVMH announced key executive changes including the appointment of Frédéric Arnault as CEO of Loro Piana.

“While reflecting on the last 11 years, I have been lucky enough to be surrounded by people with the imagination, the skills, the tenacity, and the resourcefulness to find a way to say ‘yes’ to all my wildly ambitious ideas,’” Anderson said in a statement. “While my chapter draws to a close, Loewe’s story will continue for many years to come, and I will look on with pride, watching it continue to grow, the amazing Spanish brand I once called home.’”

The design expertise, creative talent and human empathy that governs Anderson’s existence is enormous. That’s a credit to him and also the platform LVMH gave him with their 2013 investment in JW Anderson, founded in 2008.

Simultaneously, Anderson became the designer for a sleepy Spanish LVMH brand called Loewe. The designer has brought mega watt success to Loewe, but he keeps a lower profile than Hedi Slimane or Demna Gvasalia.

Make no mistake in underestimating Anderson’s exceptional creative talent and business acumen. AOC agrees that he loses the self-importance race to his colleagues.

Pierre-Yves Roussel, then chairman and chief executive of LVMH Fashion Group, said about bringing Jonathan Anderson onboard in 2013: "When Delphine Arnault [LVMH executive and daughter of Bernard Arnault, LVMH's multi-billionaire boss] and I first met Jonathan, we immediately felt that we could help him express the full potential of his innovative, fast-emerging and already influential brand."

AOC last spoke about Pierre-Yves Roussel, Tory Burch’s husband and CEO of Tory Burch LLC since 2019, in relation to the Tory Burch SS 2025 campaign.
