With a September focus on the ‘baddest bitches’ around, Helena’s Peruvian-roots, supermodels party-girl mother Elsa Christensen also makes an appearance in the fashion story. Elsa enjoyed honorary superparent status back in the day, as she and Helena’s father, Fleming Christensen, often found themselves as the ‘adults in the room’ at some fairly wild, fashion-people parties.
True Grit Women
At only 17 years old, Elsa sailed in a cargo ship from Peru to Denmark via Belgium, in the company of Helena’s grandmother Angelica. Helena’s father Fleming passed in July 2023 causing a natural period of all that had transpired in Elsa’s life.
In 2025 Elsa and Helena returned to visit Yolanda, who took one single photo of Else and Angelica as they stood on the deck of the ship waving goodbye. Documenting the trip on her IG, Helena said “it was a beautiful and very emotional reunion.”
Helena Christensen’s Personal/Business Life
In 1986 Helena Christensen won the Miss Universe Denmark title and a decade later walked the second Victoria’s Secret fashion show, where her road to a brief Angels status followed. The co-founder of ‘Nylon’ magazine in 1999, Helena also acted as creative director.
She has one son Mingus, co-parented with Norman Reedus, when the couple split after five years. Reedus has been in a long relationship with German actor and former model Diane Kruger.
Helena has a rock-solid commitment to climate awareness. She currently serves as a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, using her photography to document displaced communities affected by environmental and social crises. She also has a long relationship with Oxfam, documenting the human and environmental impacts of glacial melting and climate change in Peru, Nepal, and Kenya.
