Edward Enninful, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons Talk 'Creative People'

Photographer Rafael Pavarotti [IG] teams up with British Vogue EIC Edward Enninful in ‘For Creative People To Be Excited Is The Only Way’. The fashion story cast — all associated with Netflix films — includes ‘The Crown’ Emma Corrin; ‘Shadow and Bone’ Jessie Mei Li; ‘Bridgerton’ Simone Ashley; and ‘His House’ Wunmi Mosaku.

The acting quartet models Prada’s Fall 2021 collection, a visual backdrop for Afua Hirsch’s interview with Prada co-creative director Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons.

Condé Nast's New Beginning

The September 2021 issue is the first to be produced as part of Condé Nast's new global editorial strategy announced in December 2020. The roll-out has been very low-key, but Condé Nast is clear that the September 2021 ‘New Beginning’ issues are the first to be produced under the new editorial strategy.

The initiative brings together all 27 editions of Vogue, under the ‘New Beginnings’ heading, as a powerful and emotive mark of unity and message of hope for Vogue's global community, looking ahead to a post-pandemic world — that we should be so lucky as global citizens.

The Rise of Edward Enninful

Edward Enninful, British Vogue editor-in-chief and now European editorial director, officially debuts in new role.

"New Beginnings represents the energy of the fashion industry going forward. We are at a moment in time where high-fashion meets sustainability, design meets innovation and the future of the industry is evolving faster than ever," said British Vogue editor-in-chief and European editorial director, Edward Enninful. "Together, through bold changes and brave initiatives from all of us we are closer to where we all need to be: a more inclusive, diverse and renewable industry. One that is still high-fashion and glamorous, but also more open to listening to the challenges—and tackling the opportunities—that face us going forward. This shall be the energy that propels us all forward."

AOC is thrilled with the rise of Edward Enninful at British Vogue and at parent company Condé Nast . We’ve always stood in solidarity with Enninful’s vision to go beyond the obvious priority of diversity in the fashion industry, embracing the larger intersection of activism and politics in the realm of important fashion-industry priorities.

Collectively, we stand at a point in time where liberal democracies are under threat worldwide — and most definitely in America. I reported on FB this week that I awoke at 3am to a horrifying nightmare, in which a prominent Republican senator stood in my darkened doorway with a large syringe.

Trump-loyalist, South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham was going to kill me. Our eyes locked in mortal battle over his intention to extinguish everything that I stand for from feminism to racial justice to democracy.

The gravity of this moment cannot be overestimated.

In our eyes, it’s Edward who clearly recognized this reality ahead of his peers and ‘higher-ups’ at Vogue. Enninful has quietly ‘demanded’ that Vogue engage with the political reality of our global moment and its accompanying risk not only for the financial coffers of Condé Nast but for humanity at large. The climate crisis has raised the ante above the political privileges of living in a liberal democracy to the question of vitality in the very biosphere in which we exist.

AOC is incredibly excited to see Edward Enninful’s influence and Vogue Europe vision play out on a larger scale in the coming months. He and his team will surely make some mistakes, because Edward takes risks.

Many fashionistas disagree with this new Vogue editorial approach, and they will be savage in their criticism. For this reason, AOC wants to take a clear position on Vogue Europe and Edward Enninful.

Anne of Carversville has never played games in the world of fashion reporting and commentary. We are straight-shooters 110% of the time [the good, the bad, the ugly — and Anne being overwrought at times!!]. But we are absolutely on Team Enninful — not because it’s a new beginning at Vogue — but because we share Edward’s values and vision for humankind. And we’ve shared these values for a very long time.

As the British Vogue story line says — and I believe it with my whole heart —

For the Creative People to be Excited Is the Only Way”

Just understand that the definition of “the creative people” has expanded exponentially in recent years. If you’ve walked through that door, just be certain to leave it open for the person following you into the light. ~ Anne
