Rebecca Traister Shares Harvey Weinstein Rage & C#nt Calling, Battery Story

On a related topic, the women of Hollywood need to open their beautiful mouths, even if it's to say that they never had a problem with Harvey Weinstein. Apparently, many didn't. To say nothing, however -- Meryl Streep, for starters -- is not acceptable for two reasons: 1) it's wrong and they need to stop calling themselves feminists if they say nothing at all; and 2) the Republicans are having a field day with their hypocrisy charges already. Liberal women say nothing when the boy is one of our own. Meanwhile, we crucify the Catholic bishops. Republicans are correct if this silence continues.

Lawyer Lisa Bloom Resigns As Adviser To Harvey Weinstein After Dramatic Accusations Of Sexual Harassment

The lawyer Lisa Bloom said on Saturday that she is no longer representing disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein, who is facing allegations of rampant sexual harassment detailed in a dramatic expose written by Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey andpublished by the New York Times.

Bloom's announcement came one day after a third of the all-male board of directors resigned, leaving the remaining board members to announce that they had hired an outside law firm to investigate the allegations and that Mr. Harvey Weinstein had taken an indefinite leave of absence.

Saudi Women Will Be Driving In June 2018 As Kingdom Harnesses Their Economic Power

There are few greater symbols of women's oppression worldwide than the prohibition against women driving in Saudi Arabia. AOC has lobbied against this absurd law for nearly a decade.  The New York Times reminds us:

Some said that it was inappropriate in Saudi culture for women to drive, or that male drivers would not know how to handle women in cars next to them. Others argued that allowing women to drive would lead to promiscuity and the collapse of the Saudi family. One cleric claimed — with no evidence — that driving harmed women’s ovaries.

Pure economics is part of the change promoted by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the king's young son charged with overhauling the kingdom's economy and society. Low oil prices have limited the government's ability to fund unneeded jobs. Women's incomes are critical in expanding economic demand in the kingdom.

Saudi women are expected to legally hit the road in June 2018, after a period of training male police officers how to interact with women and teaching women how to drive.

Earlier in 2017 King Salman bin Abdulaziz Saud issued an order allowing women to benefit from government services including education and healthcare without getting the permission of a male guardian. The decision came after spring 2017 outrage over the the election of Saudi Arabia to the UN's women's commission, whose role is to shape "global standards on gender equality and the empowerment of women".

California Said No More Women Will Bleed To Death In Childbirth. The Results Are Dramatic

California Said No More Women Will Bleed To Death In Childbirth. The Results Are Dramatic

Maternal deaths in America are climbing steadily, making us an outlier against the rest of the developed world. The US is only one of 13 countries with maternal death rate increases since 1990. We stand in the company of North Korea and Zimbabwe.

Between 2000 and 2014, maternal deaths soared by 27 percent to 24 per 100,000 in America.. That rate is three times the rate of the United Kingdom and about eight times that of Netherlands, Norway and Sweden, writes Vox.

The reasons for steep rises in maternal deaths in America are several. There have been changes in how maternal deaths are reported. Efforts to correct this under-reporting are a minor reason for the current increase. While it's impossible to prove casuality conclusively, the war against Planned Parenthood has closed many women's health clinics, giving poor and middle class women no access to contraception or maternal care.

A Joke or Not?? Saudi Arabia Awarded Seat on Commission on the Status of Women

A Joke or Not?? Saudi Arabia Awarded Seat on Commission on the Status of Women

In an appalling act of absurdity, The UN Economic and Social Council voted days ago to award Saudi Arabia a four-year term on the Commission on the Status of Women. beginning in 2018

“Electing Saudi Arabia to protect women’s rights is like making an arsonist into the town fire chief,” said Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch. “It’s absurd.”

“Every Saudi woman,” said Neuer, “must have a male guardian who makes all critical decisions on her behalf, controlling a woman’s life from her birth until death. Saudi Arabia also bans women from driving cars.”

“I wish I could find the words to express how I feel right know. I’m ‘saudi’ and this feels like betrayal,” tweeted a self-described Saudi woman pursuing a doctorate in international human rights law in Australia.

Saudi Arabia was elected by a secret ballot last week of the U.N.’s 54-nation Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Usually ECOSOC rubber-stamps nominations arranged behind closed doors by regional groups, however this time the US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley  U.S. forced an election, to China’s chagrin.

Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal, Women's Rights Advocate, Will Donate $32 Billion Fortune To Activist Philanthropy

Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal, Women’s Rights Advocate, Will Donate $32 Billion Fortune To Activist Philanthropy

AOCfirst wrote about Prince Alwaleed bin Talal in 2009, focusing on his unusual commitment — not only to women’s rights — but to hiring and advancing Saudi women in in his businesses and foundation. Women make up 65 percent of positions in his companies, where he discourages them from wearing the veil.

The Prince employs Hanadi Al Hindi, the first Saudi woman to gain a commercial pilot’s license, to fly his personal jet around the world.

The Prince’s fourth wife Princess Ameerah (divorced in 2013) has become one of the strongest voices for women’s empowerment in Saudi Arabia.

Chelsea Clinton says of the Princess: “Ameerah’s advocacy on behalf of Saudi women has provided a tremendous contribution to how we think about the rights of girls and women around the world.”

Republican War on Women | Without Facts, Lie, Distort, & Mock Women's Rights

Republican War on Women | Without Facts, Lie, Distort, & Mock Women's Rights

After watching this video on YouTube , of Howie Rich training Tea Party goes in guerrilla Internet tactics like giving Liberal books a 1-star rating on Amazon and Conservative ones a 5-star — even though they haven’t read either book, Senator Jon Kyl’s strategy of lying on the Senate floor about Planned Parenthood services comes right out of this Tea Party activist guide.

Howie Rich pretty much tells Tea Party people to do what is required to destroy the enemy (that would be me). Educating Americans factually is not part of their goal. Smear the opposition — which is a classic Eugene McCarthy tactic — is embraced by the Tea Party, then leveraged by the Republican War on Women by Senator Jon Kyl on the Senate floor.

Planned Parenthood-Government Shutdown Update

RedTracker | The future of Planned Parenthood, an organization 90 years old, is held in the hands of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Mormon who personally opposes abortion and has previously run ads expressing his anti-abortion stance.

“On 97 percent of our work, Sen. Reid and Planned Parenthood are completely together,” Cecile Richards, president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, told POLITICO.

House Republican said this afternoon that the fight is not over abortion, without using the abortion word.

Rep. Mary Bono Mack, R-Palm Springs, calling herself “a pro-choice Republican from California,” said the shutdown fight is “about three things: spending, more spending and too much spending.”

Fox News women agree that there would be no shutdown if more women were in Congress.
