Makoto Azuma 'Ice Flowers' Exhibit & The Life Cycles Of Fabulous Flowers

It’s fair to say that botanical artist Makoto Azuma is obsessed with showcasing the extraordinary beauty of flowers and bonsai from a unique perspective. His recent exhibition ‘Ice Flowers’ encased flower bouquets in blocks of ice over a period of two days.

Housed in a warehouse two hours northwest of Tokyo, the 16 jaw-dropping bouquets began as fresh, lush beauties that withered and degraded during the course of the two-day January 2015 exhibition.

Azuma writes on his website:

Flowers will show unique expressions that they do not display in everyday life, by being placed under such a different environment Please enjoy how flowers and ice change themselves over time in the ruins far from human’s existence—it is an inorganic space that makes a vivid contrast with flowers.
