Hailey Bieber's Sustainable Superga Fall-Winter 2021 Sneakers by Zoey Grossman

Hailey Bieber returns for Superga’s fall-winter 2021 campaign, styled by Gabriella Karefa-Johnson at the Tennis and Riding Club in Malibu, California. Photographer Zoey Grossman [IG] captures the glam shots of the Italian brand’s 2750 and 2706 OG styles.

Superga’s classic 2750 tennis sneaker has endured for over 100 years, dating back to 1911, when its creator Walter Martiny designed a shoe for his tennis-loving wife. Back then tennis shows were designed for playing on grass. Martiny had his eye on a move to harder courts of pavement or clay, and created Superga’s classic 2750 tennis sneaker to have a vulcanized sole.

Besides Hailey, modern women who have loved their Supergas include Princess Diana, Alexa Chung and the Olsen twins, designers of The Row.

“When I think of timeless style I think of something that transcends different generations. Superga is a brand that has withstood the test of time. The classic styles and sustainability of the brand make it a closet staple,” Hailey says approvingly.

AOC gives no free passes on sustainability claims, so off we go to verify Hailey’s comment.

Superga’s Global Vice President of Sales, Lorenzo Boglione, believes the shoe has withstood the test of time and changing trends because of its simple, versatile and trusted design. “There is a strong customer base that wants authentic products that have been around for a long time, and have a true story and true heritage,” he says.

Superga uses natural rubber for its soles and raw cotton to create their canvas. In November 2020, the brand introduced its first-ever Organic Collection, with the 2750 having a starring role. The collection used a canvas blend of organic cotton and hemp, topped off with organic threads, a 50% recycled rubber sole and natural cork insole.

The brand produces a vegan range that is 100% free of animal products. Absolutely no animals have been involved in testing materials used in the sneakers. There are no animal-derived ingredients. Even the glue is vegan — but we found polyester combined with cotton in the laces. [Thorough, right?]

Alright, Hailey. Superga is developing an increasingly sustainable profile. You sold us. ~ Anne
