Polina Uagen | Emre Guven | Marie Claire Turkey November 2011

Photographer Emre Guven delivers flower power at its best, working with stylist Hakan Ozturk on a gorgeous, dramatically feminine but modern editorial for Vogue Turkey’s November 2011 issue.

Starring Polina Uagen, the editorial unintentionally challenges me to consider the creative opportunities for technology and photoshop techniques that are used for higher creative purposes, rather than improving the model’s appearance, so that she is ‘flawless’.

I’ve had many conversations with photographers — disproportionately female — about extreme photoshop in the creative process. Perhaps post production types will be challenged in the short-term to show their creative stuff in more challenging ways than cutting off models’ heads and putting them on new bodies or spending their hours carving our armpits into unrecognizable visions of the female body.

These remodeling techniques reflect Henry Higgings at his best — but many wo(men) professionals are committed to turning the tide.

The creative opportunities are limitless in fashion editorials — as evidenced here by Emre Guven — if the entire cast has a creative brain. Well done, Marie Claire Turkey. I like it. Post-production guys — you have been forewarned that the mandate to unleash your own creative, collaboration skills is on the visible trend curve.

As being truly ‘flawless’ is viewed for the empty promise that reduces women’s potential, let’s see your real skills shine. xoxo Anne
