World-renown Lebanese jewelers Mouawad is in the business of designing Victoria’s Secret Fantasy bras since 2001, when Heidi Klum debuted the first Fantasy bra that the Guiness Book of World Records entered as the world’s most expensive bra.
Always looking to up the ante with a more is better message, this year Victoria’s Secret decided to launch two Fantasy bras, with each lingerie set containing 16,000 perfect sapphires, rubies and diamonds, held together with 18-karat-gold body pieces. Perhaps in a nod to America’s collapsing middle class and a VS aspirational customer, this year’s Fantasy bras are valued at a mere $2 million each, compared to last year’s Fantasy Bra worn by Candice Swanepoel at a value of $10 million.
According to Wiki, only the 2004 and 2012 Fantasy bras found buyers, with the remainders being dismantled after a year. There will be no New York Metropolitan Museum 2051 Gala celebrating ‘50 Years of Victoria’s Secret’s Fantasy Bras’.
Mouawad remains a privately-held, fourth generation company headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, with a Middle East headquarters at Jumeirah Lakes Towers in Dubai. Mouawad’s roots emanate from founder David Mouawad, who studied and wored in New York and Mexico before opening a small shop in Beirut in 1908.
