Miley Cyrus' Mind Runs Fabulously Wild In Vanity Fair US March Cover Story, Lensed By Ryan McGinley
/Super talent Miley Cyrus covers the March 2019 issue of Vanity Fair Magazine. The new bride, now married to Liam Hemsworth in the aftermath of Malibu’s November 2018 deadly fires that destroyed a thousand homes, is styled by Samira Nasr in images by Ryan McGinley. / Hair by Recine; makeup by James Kaliardos
Miley sits down with Zach Baron in an outstanding interview — one of the best AOC has read in a long time. If only it appeared on The Conversation, where we have rights to repost verbatim, we would republish every word. Miley meets Baron in Miami at Gianni Versace’s old mansion on Ocean Drive, now a hotel.
One of the most relevant narratives in an interview overflowing with words worth reading is Miley’s discussion of gender identity and the labels of being female or male. So many younger people refer to not wanting or relating to gender identification labels, but few can explain this evolving concept in a comprehensible way that resonates.
It’s not only America’s conservative, religious-right flank that is confused on purpose. Many progressives who support queer rights don’t understand the idea of genderless people — neither male-identifying or female-identifying. Parland activist Emma Gonzalez has also added quality thoughts to the discussion.
I want to read the interview again and then write a separate article that lavishly quotes Cyrus, who identifies as genderqueer person. Her words are a gift to the majority of people out there trying to earnestly understand this complex, important evolving gender narrative.
