Makeup Artist Pat McGrath Labs Launches Heavenly Bodies Collection With The Met Collection
/Makeup artist Pat McGrath enjoyed a special collaboration with the 2018 met Gala, with the introduction of her Pat McGrath Labs x The Met Collection.
In late April, McGrath announced the latest addition to her makeup range, Lust: Gloss, an intensely shiny, moisturizing pigmented expansion of the prolific Pat McGrath Labs lip product range. On Met Gala day Monday, McGrath unveiled a specific shade of Lust: Gloss, called Aliengelic, as the first shade to become available for purchase at The Met. The Pat McGrath Labs x The Met collection also includes a special edition of the Mothership IV: Decadence Eyeshadow palette.
The packaging for both products will feature artwork from The Met's "Heavenly Bodies" collection. The gloss, retailing for $28, is described by McGrath as "an extravagantly ethereal gloss inspired by celestial beings and opulent textures I saw woven throughout 'Heavenly Bodies." The Mothership IV: Decadence Eyeshadow Palette sells for $125.
The new cosmetics range is not currently included in The Met Store's shop the exhibition online collection, but may be added in the next few days, as most press release reference online, as well as Met Museum gift shop sales.
The Met will also be selling a small, limited-edition line of Pat McGrath apparel, including short- and long-sleeved T-shirts, priced at $62 and $82, respectively, with "additional products" to be released throughout the exhibition's duration. It's not the first time people have been able to clothe themselves in Pat McGrath-branded apparel; last December, the makeup mogul had unveiled her first merch collection for Labs, which included bomber jackets, hoodies, and tees.
“The Costume Institute's exhibitions are legendary, and I am thrilled to be able to present this exclusive range of products inspired by this prestigious exhibition,” Pat explained via press release. "Religious history and artifacts have always been vital influences on my work, and it is an extraordinary honor for me to be unveiling these new pieces alongside this breathtaking exhibition as the first-ever beauty brand at New York's iconic Met Store.” In an interview with WWD, Pat also shared that the experience of working on the collab was a personal one: “I feel incredibly close to this year’s show, [‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination’] — many of the extraordinary pieces featured are from shows and campaigns I worked on, so to me, it represents some of the most beloved, groundbreaking moments throughout my career as a makeup artist.”
