Lina Zoo | Quan Mai | The Flower of Carnage or 'La Flor de la Mantaza'
/
Genetic Boi made me smile today. Not only has Quan produced a beautiful and intellectually relevant editorial around his muse and friend Lina Zoo, but Quan has done it low budget and without a cast of the assistant to the assistant’s assistant.
Writing about The Flower of Carnage/La Flor de la Mantanza, Quan Mai says:
What makes this shoot even more special is that I made that red chiffon dress she’s wearing in the first half of the editorial! Very easy, and chic, a belt works wonder. The theme or rather, inspirations was contrast and contradictions, supple and brittle, organic and geometric, something soft like a flower with something harsh like a massacre (a carnage) and a slight hint of religious symbolism, and sort of influence by “Day Of The Dead” a spanish holiday (Día de los Muertos) overall, it’s just about expressing womankind and being strong-willed.
It seems Genetic Boi is someone to watch. And his choice of music is fantastic: ‘Vicente Amigo — Amor, Dulce Muerte’ is music to our ears.
