On a related note, I just watched Halima Aden’s poignant and inspiring TED Talk from her birthplace, Kakuma Refugee Camp located in Turkana County, Kenya. So many dots in our AOC content lead to the same destinations, as our GlamTribal Design Jewelry collection is inspired by the Lake Turkana region and the Omo Valley people from southern Ethiopia (on the northern border of the lake), believed to be home to the first humans.

Kakuma lives on hallowed ground and each of us — regardless of race, nationality or religion — is connected to the soil of on which the Kakuma Refugee Camp was created in 1969.

Halima speaks to the topic of our human connections in her TED Talk from Kakuma. Many of the topics raised in Halima’s address are already embedded in her AOC Model Archives. We share her AOC posts below for easy reading, including her convo with Carine Roitfeld about wearing her hijab. Halima Aden Tells Her Story From Kakuma for TEDX
