Vogue's Sarah Mower shared her chat with "London's most successfully romantic, cinematically minded independent designer" on July 13 about his decision to develop a new H&M collection. The decision is a major break with the designer's 12-year history of avoiding commercial ventures with his label.

Erdem's H&M collection will launch on November 2 in 66 countries. When Mower arrived in the Hampshire countryside, the designer was hard at work with  Ann-Sofie Johansson, H&M’s creative adviser and Baz Luhrmann who was shooting the new collection.  Always inspired by his attachment to Merchant Ivory films, having Baz Luhrmann as a collaborator seduced Erdem to break his long avoidance of commercial opportunities. Mower writes:

It was his presence that explained a hillside parking lot jam-packed with trucks and catering vans and the vast delivery of delphiniums and flowers that had arrived to be transported through the front door, strewn up staircases, and festooned from balconies. A mini movie was in progress for the Erdem x H&M launch, with a script Luhrmann has written. More than this we may not know until the big day. Regarding the short clip you see here, Luhrmann exclaimed, “It’s a teaser!”
