The world has plenty of basic things,” Babi Ahluwalia told Hamptons Magazine. “If you’re going to show your point of view, then you have to make it a bit unique, yet functional, no?” Babi was discussing Sachin + Babi, the contemporary womenswear label she designs with her husband, Sachin. The couple are both from India and met as students at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology in 1994.
Sachin and Babi Ahluwalia have been developing embroidery and appliqué concepts for some of the world’s most influential designers since 1996. The couple includes fashion brands Oscar de la Renta and Valentino as clients.
In 2009, the husband-and-wife duo realized their own dream of designing a modern women’s collection that expresses their creativity and their heritage – Sachin + Babi contemporary and evening ready-to-wear. Sachin + Babi became Sachin & Babi and Noir Sachin & Babi in 2014 to provide their contemporary and eveningwear customers with the individual attention they deserve.
Emboldened by their success, Sachin and Babi Ahluwalia opened a Soho home store called Ankasa.
