MarpLondon Explores Woman As Bride In 'She Loves You, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah'

MarpLondon — aka Marianne (Petersen) — lives in London and is known for her visual art that merges pop culture with social commentary. Her series ‘She Loves You, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah’ is featured in the Guardian UK and represented here on AOC. With its focus on the mass market of society weddings, romantic love and consumerism, ‘She Loves You, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah’ explores the role of the woman as bride.
MarpLondon, is having a wonderful period of well-deserved exposure. Earlier in November MarpLondon was an Editor’s Pick at LensCulture. In October, MarpLondon’s ‘You don’t fight revolutions with silk gloves’ was featured on Emaho Magazine.
Besides finding MarpLondon’s work visually intoxicating, Marianne’s message is right on for AOC readers. Referring to her series ‘Icons of Modern Civilization’, the artist weighs in on women’s struggle for personal identity and independence, with a focus on three themes. Speaking of her third focus Master of Duality, Mariane writes:
Women’s fight for equality has always used the female body and fashion as a tool to fight, to be noticed, to be heard, to understand and to be understood. The full veil is no different or stranger to this.It’s as much as political tool as it’s a cultural signifier as it’s a religious one as a sexual one.
