Carolyn Murphy Visits Takashi Murakami With Mario Testino for Vogue US March 2013

Carolyn Murphy jets to the heart and soul of Tokyo, wearing a minimalist modern, Asian-inspired wardrobe for the March issue of Vogue US. Murphy is lensed by Mario Testino at a stop in Takashi Murakami’s warehouse-size studio, where he is working on a series of ancient monks, rendered as grotesque cartoon characters. Murakami describes the installation as his personal response to Japan’s 2011 earthquake.

Murphy’s trip into the arty side kimono culture is styled by Camilla Nickerson with appearances in ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’ by Rina Ohta, Hikari Mori, Izumi Mori, Nobuyoshi Araki, Nakamura Fukusuke IX, Exile, Rinko Kikuchi and Kiko Mizuhara. /Hair by James Pecis; makeup by Linda Cantello.
