Born in Shanghai in 1982 as the only child of architect parents, Du studied for nine years at the prestigious Shanghai Academy of Dance. When her height approached six feet tall, it became impossible to find a dancing partner for this striking woman called China’s first supermodel. At this point, Du Juan turned to modeling, saying today:
The nine years I spent learning ballet taught me diligence and determination. Without those nine years, there wouldn’t be the Du Juan of today.
