Bringing Lara Stone and Mario Sorrentini together in Vatican country is a smart style move for Vogue Japan’s November 2011 issue. This duo is on the inside track in understanding the conflicts between religion and female sensuality, expressed here with the restricted belts, laces, neck collars — all the symbolic BDSM accessories of the season.

As someone who misses the overtly sensual Lara Stone, I’m delighted with the collaboration, styled in excess but with full frontal meaning by George Cortina. If Lara is really ‘La Belle Maitresse’ playing the dominant, she’s missing her discipline tool. I’m not so sure that people who call her the dominant have their roles straight.  Anne
