Caitlin Mitchell's 21 Amy Hixson 'Private Obsession' Images Unveiled

Note | Nudity When I first looked at these images spread out at the Mercer Hotel, I didn’t know that photographer Caitlin Mitchell’s absolutely fabulous images of Amy Hixson and Sarah Dumont had already suffered one setback. Caitlin explains:

When this project — ‘Private Obsession’ — was first conceptualized, we were originally going to preview them at the Coco de Mer store in Soho, with its unfortunate store closing the opportunity vanished. I was so excited about the images and wanted to print them in a large format and show them in a pop-up style gallery. I was fearful time was passing too quickly and we were approaching the end of the year with out giving this project proper justice.

Will Torres suggested that his new West Village WILLSPACE showcase Caitlin Mitchell’s Amy Hixson ‘Private Obsession’ images. Even I wondered to myself “How will she pull off this pop-up gallery idea, when the holidays are coming and she has no sponsor yet?”

Enter Will Torres, who suggested that Caitlin Mitchell’s ‘Private Obsession’ images launch his new WILLSPACE workout space at 254 W 10th, Suite B in Greenwich Village.

The idea was nothing less than spectacular, underscoring the scientific, healthy-body connection between libido and a well-toned body. The leather and metal in the images reflected the beauty and rawness in the gym equipment. It was a perfect paring, leaving Wednesday night’s party to fire on all cylinders.

I’m privy to some ideas for the next stop on Caitlin’s ‘Private Obsession’ tour. There will be another showing because this talented photographer has a growing fan club of people like me who are beating her drum. Caitlin explains:

The future of the images and the show at the moment is unknown, however we are very enthusiastic to find a place in LA and London to show the body of images and entice more viewers with the work. We have printed limited editions of the images that are available for sale.

Tomorrow morning, we’ll finish the installation of the 1000 dpi images at Sensuality News Sweet Dreams. The first eight images are displayed, along with a bit of saucy erotica by Jen Nash, written for the party. You easily understand why Caitlin and I click; great minds run on the same track.

She shares her private thoughts on photographing women

The actual shoot days were composed of a strong female contingent. We allowed ourselves full creativity and sensual spontaneity. As a woman photographer, what I fell most strongly about is allowing my subjects to open up and explore new movement and ideas, creating an environment this is playful and sexy.

Great Sensual Minds Resist Sexual Stereotypes

It’s been said by insiders that dear friends of mine at the world’s largest lingerie brand believe that women photographers can’t bring out the innate sensuality in lingerie models. Hence, fantastic photographers like Russell James (who I adore, no secret about that) are behind the lens.

Firstly, I don’t believe that silly rumour is true about such brilliant strategists for marketing to women. But if this photography world hush hush has an ounce of truth to it — privately-speaking — then I say it’s time to change the creative minds of lingerie makers worldwide.

There’s no place like home to start the ball rolling, and I don’t mean Kansas. Go East young woman, just not all the way to the Promised Land. Caitlin Mitchell’s ‘Private Obsession’ images of Amy Hixson and Sarah Dumont just put that impossible-to-believe, stereotypical woman photographer rumour tidbit to rest imho.

Pandora’s Box is now open for business. One major photographer, who will remain nameless but is notoriously discriminating in not uttering false compliments (definitely a man after my own heart), thinks this girl’s got significant talent.

One down … a sexy industry to go. Well done, Caitlin Mitchell.  Anne
