Val Demings for Vice President? These SuperWomen ALL Have Bloomberg Backing
/Many Democrats -- and the world at large -- are very impressed with Florida's Val Demings, who served as Chief of the Orlando Police Department, before being elected to Congress in 2016.
Demings is one of the seven Democratic impeachment managers in the current Trump impeachment hearings. Nancy Pelosi is giving Demings room to shine brightly, and she has accepted the responsibility.
“I’ve taken four oaths in my lifetime, two as a law enforcement officer and two now as a member of Congress,” the Congresswoman said in December. “Each oath stated that I will protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”
Florida Politics’ Scott Powers makes the case for a vice presidential slot for Demings. Powers makes the case that everybody including Joe Biden should be courting Demings as a VP candidate. He's right, of course, and Demings seems to be a super candidate.
I'm flipped over how many women Mike has backed for political office in America. Last week he hired five key people from the now defunct Kamala Harris campaign, including Kimberly Peeler-Allen, the co-chair of Higher Heights for America Political Action Committee, which focuses on encouraging black women to vote for the group’s endorsed candidates, Higher Heights is the only national political action committee exclusively dedicated to electing Black women.
Abrams Definitely Has Company | Demings is a Powerhouse
Delivering Florida will seal the deal for Democrats, especially if Mike Bloomberg or Joe Biden is the candidate.
Digging through the Powers commentary, I note that he omits how Demings came to Congress after losing a 2012 race for Congress, then making a run for mayor of Orange County -- home to Orlando -- before withdrawing from the race.
In 2016, Val Demings took out Republican incumbent Congressman Dan Webster, who narrowly beat her in 2012. After sitting out a contest in 2014, redistricting made the seat more favorable to a Democrat in 2016.
In what is the biggest untold media story of the 2020 campaign, no person in the world has invested more money in Democratic women candidates -- AND Democratic women of color -- than Mike Bloomberg. The facts are clear.
Mike Bloomberg Backed Another Stellar Black Woman Politico in 2012
Mike didn't just pick Demings up in 2016. He backed her in her original 2012 run against Webster.
“Few people in America have done more to fight gun violence than Val Demings,” Bloomberg insisted when he stepped up in 2016, as his PAC endorsed her. “She will be a powerful leader in Congress on day one to pass sensible laws to protect all Americans from illegal guns.”
Mike's PAC ran a 2016 ad showcasing Demings' speech at the Democratic National Convention last month.
“I've had the honor of serving as Orlando's first woman chief of police,” Demings said in that speech which the ad replays. “I know firsthand the tragedy that gun violence inflicts on families in America."
“Val Demings, bringing police and communities together to fight gun violence and reduce crime, mentoring and educating our children, keeping them safe," a narrator says. “Val Demings for Congress - putting Central Florida families first.”
No Bigger Backer of Democratic Women Than Mike Bloomberg
Mike Bloomberg has backed so many Democratic women -- and women of color -- that we need to install a Rachel Maddow type board to track them all. Bloomberg Democrats is ON IT!!
We've been saying that Mike's long and tight relationship with Stacey Abrams is the way to go. But now Val Demings has entered stage left.
It's been said that this year's 2020 Democratic presidential field is an overabundance of riches. To be honest, we haven't been quite so overwhelmed -- which is why I was real happy to see Mike get in the race.
But whoa!!! Mike's historic support for black women political candidates is deep and goes way back. How far back? Inquiring minds want to know.
That man keeps blowing me out of the ballpark. Every damn day. I cannot keep up with him, and I thought I knew a lot about him.
Hey, I'm not proud. We’re learning a lot here about the total picture of Mike Bloomberg ~ Anne
