Clinton Campaign Works To Expand Its Coalition After Super Tuesday Victories
/Elton John and Katy Perry Sing Hillary Clinton's Praises Unconditionally New York Times
On a night when speechmaking was kept to a minimum, both singers acted as political stand-ins and activists (for fighting AIDS, in the case of Mr. John, and championing women’s rights, in the case of Ms. Perry).
Both dedicated a single song to Mrs. Clinton, who spoke briefly and then went backstage: “I’m Still Standing,” a ballad of endurance by Mr. John, and “Unconditionally,” a song of tolerance by Ms. Perry.
Mr. Trump’s name was never uttered. Yet Ms. Perry, especially, seemed to keep finding oblique ways to compare him with Mrs. Clinton."
How Clinton hit the reset button on 2016 Politico
Hillary Clinton is not the most talented candidate in the 2016 race. She isn’t the most electrifying speaker. And with Bernie Sanders’ massive online donor operation, she can’t even stake claim to being the best-funded Democrat in the field (he outraised her by about $10 million last month). But the last month has proven she is the toughest, and most resilient candidate in the field. For all her flaws, Clinton has overcome early stumbles to dominate Sanders on Super Tuesday, and she’s started to gently ease him into the fold even as the GOP descends into political Mogadishu.
The key to Clinton’s resurgence, and her game-changing Nevada and South Carolina wins, was the issue of race. After New Hampshire, she embraced a crusade against racial discrimination that energized black voters, unclogged the campaign’s collective writer’s block on messaging, reconnected with black voters and reactivated the old Hillaryland network of female friends, many of whom are African-American women.
Clinton Campaign Sees Its Coalition Growing After Super Tuesday BuzzFeed News
As the final tallies came in on Super Tuesday, Clinton campaign aides were focused on the southwestern corner of Virginia. Comprising 20 full counties and parts of two others, it is comprised almost exclusively of white voters.
If Clinton could win there, it would be evidence of a broadening, diverse, November-ready Clinton coalition. Clinton ultimately won and by a margin of nearly 10%, according to AP results in the district’s 20 counties.
Progressives begin shifting focus from supporting Bernie Sanders to beating Donald Trump LATimes
Progressive groups like MoveOn.org, which formally endorsed Sanders, has responded to Tuesday's primaries by warning about the threat posed by a Trump candidacy. As progressives see the Clinton dominance in primary results to be irreversible, they are moving to close ranks with a targeted focus on the likely Republican candidate: Trump.
