Republican Stag Party Vision | National Organization for Women Endorses National March Against War on Women

With women of both parties occupying only 17% of Congressional seats, it might seem unfair for New York Mag’s Frank Rich to write Stag Party: The GOP’s woman problem is that it has a serious problem with women.
“For much of its history, misogyny was not the style of the party of Lincoln,” writes Rich. Because so many of its women were educated, the GOP was often ahead of the curve in granting women’s rights. When women got the vote via the 19th Amendment, roughly three-quarters of the 36 state legislatures that ratified the amendment were controlled by Republicans.
If you read AOC, you know 90% of the information Rich shares to show just how far afield the Republican party has gone in its rejection of independent, educated, competent women. Rich does share a story of MItt Romney the bishop. Indeed, the candidate has been a bishop of his church (perhaps he still is?)
A mother of four learned that she had a blood clot in her pelvis during a later, unexpected pregnancy, putting her own health and that of the fetus at risk. Romney visited the hospital where she “lay helpless, hurt, and frightened,” as she described it, only to tell her that “as your bishop, my concern is with the child.”

“Prominent names, young and old, step forward to endorse UNITE Women”
BIRMINGHAM, MI—UNITEWomen.org is pleased to announce the endorsement by three well-known and nationally respected advocates for women’s rights.
Ihollaback “is an international movement to address street crime or sexual harassment that happens in a public space.” Ihollaback’s efforts have changed the way street harassment is viewed and treated and its efforts have helped create the first of its kind government response in New York by connecting iPhone and Droid apps to the city’s 311 information line. Ihollaback includes 34 cities, 14 countries and operates in 8 languages. It was recently featured in Time.com’s Game Changers series.
Katrina vanden Heuvel is Editor and Publisher of The Nation magazine, serving as its editor since 1995 and as publisher since 2005. She is currently a columnist for WashingtonPost.com and is also a frequent commentator on MSNBC, CNN, ABC and PBS. In 2003 van den Heuvel was honored with a Maggie Award from Planned Parenthood for her article, “Right-to-Lifers Hit Russia.” She said simply of her UNITE Women endorsement, “I proudly, happily endorse Unite Women march on April 28. We are all in this together – ensuring women’s rights to control their bodies and health.”
National Organization for Women (NOW) “is the largest organization of feminist activists in the United States. NOW has more than 500,000 contributing members and more than 500 local and campus affiliates in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. NOW’s goal is to “take action” to bring about equality for all women. Both the actions NOW takes and its position on the issues are principled, uncompromising and often ahead of their time. NOW is a leader, not a follower, of public opinion.”
