Vik Muniz New 'Album & Postcards from Nowhere' At Hong Kong's Ben Brown Fine Arts Gallery Jan-Mar 2015
/
Postcard collage artist Vik Muniz presents his second solo exhibition at Ben Brown Fine Arts in Hong Kong from Jan. 16-Mar. 4 2015. From Ben Brown the website:
The exhibition features his recent Album and Postcards from Nowhere series for which the artist obsessively collected vintage photographs and postcards and then shredded and collaged these highly intimate relics to create bold new imagery magnified to a staggering scale. The works offer a meditation on the personal versus the collective, the precious versus the ephemeral, nostalgia and modernity.
The current series is just one example of Vik Muniz’s startling use of diverse materials in his image-making. In 2014, the artist employed toys, diamonds, industrial garbage and minute magazine clippings in a show called ‘Poetics of Perception’ at Virginia MOCA.
