Kickstarter Headquarters Comes To Greenpoint Brooklyn With Ferns, River Birches & Swamp Azalea

Wallpaper magazine takes us on a brief tour of Kickstarter’s new headquarters in Greenpoint Brooklyn. The 29.000 square feet space — bought by Kickstarter — is located in the Eberhard Faber Pencil Factory Historic District. If architect Ole Sondresen is credited with a plan to rehabilitate the space, it is designer Camille Finefrock who is infusing spirit and soul into Kickstarter’s new Brooklyn headquarters.
‘Because Yancey [Strickler] and Perry [Chen] had the foresight to make the centre of the building a garden,’ she says of the CEO and chairman, ‘my perception of the space was that this is the heart of the building. I wanted to create a portrait of the woods. At any time in the year, people can look through the window and connect to what’s happening in nature.’
The garden is filled with ferns, river birches, swamp azalea and other plants native to Long Island and the Northeast. The second garden, located on the rooftop includes a solarium with rattan loungers, an edible food garden with blueberries, tomatoes and kale, and also a cutting garden for desktop blooms.
Technology enters quietly with an area for movie screenings when the sun sets. At present there is no plan for sleepovers, but it’s easy to imagine Kickstarter employees who would rather not go home.
