I hope we can all agree that Ryan Michael Kelly’s images of Anna Vorobyeva are beautiful and ‘high brow’. In the midst of this conversation, I note also that they appeared yesterday on the Wilhelmina website, home to an agency long associated with ‘high brow’ models and consummate good taste.

This appalled male response to an Allure editorial is all sounding very British and Victorian, the global male morality police operating on women from yet another angle — all in the name of protection.

Personally, I’m not so fond of the Mario Testino-Karlie Kloss images either as I wrote, but I’m far more concerned about the judgement and condemnation around them — and Karlie’s alleged bad-girl status as pictured. 

With my specialty being “telling women’s stories from fashion to flogging” and a career as a successful business person trying to wade through global sensual waters, my radar goes into orbit when the men begin judging images of ‘high brow’ and ‘low brow’ women.

Luxury brands can get very snooty about the Victoria’s Secret models not being good enough for their runways, but they can’t deny the reality that a Victoria’s Secret contract spells financial success, unless a girl is the world’s worst money manager.

Forbes shares their estimate of the 10 top earning models with this lineup, saying that the 10 top-earning models made a combined $112 million in the 12 months ending in May, a 30% increase over last year.

Now I am officially clueless about the meaning of the Models.com Top 50 rankings, given the fact that the top-three earning models aren’t even listed and two of the three are doing major fashion editorials.

Here’s the Forbes estimated list of the top-earning models. With Victoria’s Secret models Doutzen Kroes and Miranda Kerr back from maternity leave, the list will likely change for 2012.

Every model who cares about her bank account wants to work with VS, which specializes in ‘hot’ women who are also sensual, beautiful, nice, have plenty of philanthropy projects and frequently kids these days.
