Emily's List Membership Reaches 3 Million, a 6-Fold Increase Since The 2010 Tea Party Declaration To Put Women In Our Proper Place

We can’t resist politicizing this Fidan Martinovic editorial, lensed by Semih Kanmaz for Elle Turkey’s November issue. Stylist Irem Akalin chooses sophisticated retro elegance, a point of contrast against this boys club of all white guys. It really looks like today’s Republican Party establishment.
Republicans cay say that there is no war on women, but membership in Emily’s List, dedicated to electing pro-choice women to political office, has risen sixfold in three years, reports The Huffington Post. Not every Republican woman is running scared. But even the % of white married women voting Republican in Virginia dropped in half on Tuesday, compared to the Bob McDonald election four years ago.
A new milestone of 3 million members was hit recently by Emily’s List, compared to 500,000 when the Tea Party came to Washington and many state legislatures in 2010. Perhaps we all have spaghetti for brains, but Republicans have women running very, very scared. They can deny it all day long, but the facts speak for themselves.
Emily’s List played an influential role in the 2012 elections, one that elected a record — though still small — number of women to political office. The majority were Democrats.
Emily’s List is likely to be a key player in 2014 and already is involved in high-profile races that include Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes’ challenge to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in Kentucky. The group has also has thrown its weight behind Texas gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis, the Democratic state senator who garnered national attention for her marathon filibuster against a highly restrictive abortion bill.
Huff Po says that the pro-woman biggest single boost in members came in May, when “conservative radio host Pete Santilli declared Hillary Clinton should be shot in the vagina over Benghazi.” Emily’s List says those comments led a surge of 170,000 new members as a result of Santilli’s comments.
