Caterina Maiorana | Diego Diaz Marin | 'Looking for Carmen San Diego'

One of the great pleasures of developing our websites is hearing from the photographers, many of them men of every age, who express great admiration — not only of our aesthetics and curation process — but also my views on images of strong and sensual 1990’s-inspired women.

I expected support from the women photographers but am very touched and pleasantly surprised by the comments from the men. These artists tease me with affection about my feminist style manifesto, one that is providing a lot of inspiration, based on their emails.

Today I want to call out the talented Diego Diaz Marin, a Spanish fashion photographer working in Italy with brands like Just Cavalli and Schield Collection. A big compliment to Diego’s work is his inclusion in Vogue Italia’s Photo Vogue.

AOC first wrote about Diego, featuring his ‘Axarquic Lady’ editorial and its use of religious iconography.

Diego shot Italian model Caterina Maiorana in Florence with stylist Marco Bellomo. In words he knew I would love, the shooting is inspired by 1990s spring editorials of sexy and powerful women.

Enjoy this editorial and Diego Diaz Marin’s website. Reading that he was born in a town called Torre del Mar in Malaga — and having dropped into Torre del Mar twice — in search of inspiration for Victoria’s Secret — it’s lovely to see Malaga make its way back to me.  Anne
