Pike plays the role of a London Crown Court Judge Jessica Parks, at the top of her successful career, also navigating professional demands and family life. Outside her courtroom, Parks is a karaoke fanatic, a loving wife and good mom. Life is idyllic.

Then an event occurs that throws Judge Parks’ life into chaos, leaving her family life fissured by this searing examination of modern motherhood and masculinity. One allowable hint is the current argument about boys struggling to find their way in a world where girls and women are excelling beyond boys and men on many fronts.

Writer Suzie Miller and director Justin Martin reunite following their global phenomenon ‘Prima Facie’, a one-woman play with Jodie Comer playing a young and brilliant barrister. That play continues to break records, including digital viewings.

In her interview with Gavanndra Hodge, Pike explains that while other actors are present in the scenes depicting family life, Pike is solo on stage for scenes in court.

“I have to create that courtroom for the audience: the jury, the witnesses, the barristers – all that,” the actor says. “I am already having dreams about it.”

Readers might be shocked — perhaps even going on digital media offense on behalf of the actor — learning that Pike has only two days off in two months. “Wait up” she cautions.

“Originally, they offered more, but there’s no way I could do that. It would be like being a new mother and being out on the town, and suddenly you’re thinking, ‘What am I doing? I’ve got a baby!’ It would be crazy.”

It’s also noteworthy that Rosamund Pike and partner Robie Uniacke share two boys — Solo born in 2012 and Atom born in 2014.
