Model Jean Campbell is living proof that the Burberry fall collection is recognizable anywhere. The September 17, 2023 issue of Sunday Times Style [IG] devotes the cover and two interior shots to the color-saturated, big-smile, Burberry twist on printed animals.

We learned recently about the demanding grip that incessant paint had on Bella Hadid’s body, related to her Lyme disease diagnosis. Jean Campbell shares a similar story of having a condition called ‘hip dysplasia’.

“The issue is my hips — my pelvic structure and the tops of my legs,” the model explains. “It was initially hip dysplasia [when the hip joint has not developed properly], but the issue has had a knock-on effect throughout my body. When you’re going through your day-to-day life in quite intense pain … the pain takes up so much of your energy. You’re also trying to hide it and pretend everything is fine.”

Yes, Jean Campbell is privileged; she acknowledges that fact. Not only was her mom Isabella fashion editor at British Vogue. For the record, her parents “Colin and Isabella Campbell, aka the 7th Earl and Countess of Cawdor, were once named one of the best-dressed couples in the country.”

Even better, as the eldest child of four, she was always eager to work. At age 10, Campbell began collecting chanterelles on the family estate, Cawdor Castle in the Highlands, with 10 restaurants counting on her for regular deliveries.

King Charles III is an avid mushroom hunter, finding hunting with the hounds repulsive. The day Queen Elizabeth II died, then Prince Charles left early in the morning for a walk in the woods, with his mushroom spear and foraging knife.

Back to a young Jean supplying restaurants with her chanterelles, did she ride her bike with big baskets holding her precious mushrooms, or — ahem — did the family chauffer drive her on her restaurant route?

Either way, AOC loves Campbell’s entrepreneurial spirit. The Burberry muse has a podcast on dealing with chronic pain. Clearly Lady Jean needs some pointers on entrepreneurial self-promotion, because we’re still on the hunt for the name of it. Update coming when we find it. ~ Anne
