The Moomins have not been on AOC’s radar and they turn 80 this year. Show me color-drenched images with delight and whimsy, and you have my undivided attention. It’s my understanding that ‘Moomin Mania: Finland’s Global Superstars’ has a crew of trolls who are white, rounded but with large snouts.

They are living carefree, adventurous and devoted to environmental awareness and action in their house in Moominvalley. Correct? The environment isn’t the only concern of the Moomin stories from my brief research.

Swedish-speaking Jansson brought to light values like inclusion, acceptance, and community that are important pillars of modern Nordic societies. Bravo but too woke. If Trump tries to shut down ‘Sesame Street’, perhaps the Moomins can take in Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch, Elmo and the Cookie Monster until Trump’s hateful war on Democratic American cities is over.
