“Naomi: In Fashion”, focused on the life and fashion influence of supermodel Naomi Campbell is currently showing at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum and running until April 6, 2025.

It’s a rare V&A cultural and artistic acknowledgement accorded to a single individual. To date, only Alexander McQueen, David Bowie and Frida Kahlo have been honored with solo V&A exhibitions.

Executive digital director for Harper’s Bazaar, Lynette Nylander interviews Campbell, reflecting personally on how seeing Naomi’s images “all over London” impacted her own teenage girl self-development.

Campbell’s influence was massive in London. Nylander shares the experience of telling her own father that she aspired to create a career in the fashion. The response of her West African, general-practitioner dad with “absolutely no knowledge of fashion” was to ask his daughter if she wanted to be Naomi.
