Versace Resort 2023: Gritty, Rebellious, Impulsive and Energetic Glam in Acid Colors

The Versace Resort 2023 Collection is all Donatella. It’s gutsy, with an edgy palette of acidic tones mixed with pastels. Donatella dabbled in pink and green in 2022, but she roars into the color palette for winter 2022-23 resort getaways a mere five months from now.

Versace Resort retains Gianni’s ultra-glamour vibe, but Gianni was never disheveled. Vogue expressed the difference between Donatella gritty undercurrent and Gianni’s impeccable glamazon identity by saying:

The quintessential DV look is that of a slightly disheveled, ultra-glamorous party lover—sort of “the morning after the night before.”

The abundance of head wraps taps into the night glamour of Arab culture with a reminder that modesty doesn’t require a woman to dress like a member of America’s Amish culture. Increasingly fashion enables Muslim women to live well with the requirements of both their religious and fashion preferences edicts.

The Versace Resort 2023 prints and patterns are just spectacular. The bigger the images, the more we love them. This is dopamine dressing on steroids, and it’s wonderful.

It’s not the case that the influence of the younger generation is always evident in Versace collections — or on most designer runways. Donatella Versace nails the under-30 culture mindset and then expands the adaptations throughout the collection.

It’s not the case that our young people are exuding major optimism. Yet they have a host of new ideas that are resurfacing in significant ways — gender fluidity and unisex dresssing for one. Versace taps into this rebellious vibe and her glamour doesn’t dilute it either.

She makes it a bit sloppy, peppering in plenty of grit without losing the glam factor. Is it grunge gone glam or the reverse?

There a lot of THOUGHT in this collection. “This season feels very impulsive and energetic,” said Versace. Are the clothes alluring? Not in a Gianni Versace sort of way. Is the collection alluring with the cultural codes that Donatella taps into? Yes — and it’s a very fresh approach in our opinion.

It will be fashion fakery for some who wear it, but for other women of every age, Donatella is channeling a deeply personal, intellectual, enduringly real, activist and sensual vibe. . . . And then, hot rodders will like it, too. Fasten your seat belts. I already see more than one sashaying across the awards stage. ~ Anne
