KARL LAGERFELD by Amber Valletta Spring 2022 Sustainable Collection
/The KARL LAGERFELD brand and Sustainability Ambassador Amber Valletta release their second eco-conscious collection together, building on the success of their April 2021 maiden voyage. Analysts say that that first collection was a great success, led by Valletta’s long-held reputation as a beautiful, top model eco-activist. Even PETA rewarded the 2021 collection with PETA Fashion Award.

DESSERTO®, the highly-sustainable alternative to leather, made from cactus plants and a finalist in the LVMH 2020 Innovation Awards, is again center stage in the new Lagerfeld-Valletta collab. Other earth-friendly fibers use in the new collection are 100% organic cotton, GRS certified recycled linen, and pre-consumer upcycled material Tencel™ x Refibra™ by Lenzing.
"Working with Amber has pushed us to think outside of the box, even more, when it comes to innovation and design. This collaboration with her gives us the drive to continuously improve how we move through the world with sustainability at the forefront of our values,” said Pier Paolo Righi, CEO of KARL LAGERFELD.
Righi reported that production houses were selected where possible to be close to the fabric supplier in order to minimize the environmental impact. That kind of thinking indicates that KARL LAGERFELD is not only involved in a PR campaign on the topic of sustainability.
"It was important that the collection be designed with timelessness in mind since this idea is closely tied with sustainability and extending the life of our clothes. These are classic, seasonless pieces that can easily be interchanged to create multiple looks," Amber Valletta expressed about the second KARL LAGERFELD drop. Simply stated, it’s how the supermodel herself dresses.
She cited a wish to incorporate “non-seasonal items, but with an edge,” like the biker jacket that she rocked during Paris Fashion Week at a dinner Karl Lagerfeld hosted in her honor. The Odina biker jacket is also made of vegan alternative Desserto
“I think that each piece is desirable,” Valletta added. “The whole collection was mindfully designed and produced while selecting fabrics that used natural fibers with third-party certifications.”
