Model Akuol Deng Atem showcases Liberty London A/W 2021 Conscious Collection Bags, styled by Thea Lewis-Yates. Umit Savaci [IG] photographs the sustainable collection called ‘Print With Purpose’. Before explaining the sustainability credentials, the bags are fully reversible into a different colorway — some print, some solid.
The collection is created using recycled polyester yarn spun from roughly 50% post-consumer discarded clothing (including curtains, carpet and old garments) and 50% pre-consumer industrial waste (such as unused yarn and textile scraps). Giving new life to old materials means they are prevented from entering landfill, as well as requiring significantly less energy to produce.
Compared with refining the raw materials used to produce virgin polyester from petroleum, our recycled polyester base uses:
52% less carbon dioxide emissions
39% less energy consumption
