Soo Joo Park's Boxing Discipline by David Alexander Flinn for Vogue Korea June 2021

Soo Joo Park is styled by Daniel Gaines in a strong fashion story that has roots in Park’s real life. Photographer David Alexander Flinn [IG] — the man in Soo Joo’s life — captures the ensemble for Vogue Korea’s June issue. Soo Joo takes both production and creative direction credits, inspiring AOC to ‘poke around’ further into her life.

It’s no secret that Soo Joo has been undergoing a metamorphosis of sorts in recent years. The boxing, for example, is a real thing in her life. Moving over to Vogue Korea and hitting translator, other members of the boxing fashion story are revealed — most of them Park’s boxing partners.

The shoot itself takes place at Church Street Boxing in New York, with Park’s fellow boxers are Andy Dominguez, Oksana Orlova, Ro Malabanan, and Ugo Peter-Obiagwu.

Soo Joo has been boxing for a little over two years, plunging into the sport at the urging of a friend who saw her struggling with expressed and ‘inappropriate’ aggression caused by anxiety and stress. Park met Coach Ro in a rustic basement known as the Mendez Boxing Gym.

Speaking of the atmosphere at the gym and the relationships Soo Joo has with her boxing mates, learned the importance of ‘focusing on the moment’ in this physical endeavor of passion, hard work and ‘drops of sweat’. ‘Let it flow like water, but never set boundaries. ‘The punches will fly without notice.

Soo Joo Park is also pursuing a music career, an expressed love before she became a model. That’s a separate story, but at the end of this boxing fashion shoot, we share her debut music video. Clearly, boxing is agreeing with her.
