The Volkswagen bus remains one of the truly iconic products from ‘70s hippie, California Dreamin’, progressive culture. Volkswagen was tapping into that culture before COVID-19 swept the world. As Jonathan M. Gitlin writes: “Everyone loves a VW bus, and we love them even more when they’re electric.”
The ID. BUZZ concept Volkswagen van “transfers the feeling of freedom given by the legendary Microbus to the next era of Mobility.” It’s targeted for introduction in 2022, will be built in Germany and has even heightened appeal in a post-COVID-19 world, where staying in habitats that make us feel safe will be even more important.
ID. BUZZ may make all the headlines, but the e-BULLI is ready to roll now. It’s an OEM project between VW’s commercial vehicles division and eClassics. The e-BULLI is “an official electric restomod of a classic 1966 VW T1 Samba Bus.” (For the uninitiated, a restomod is a "vehicle that has been put back together with the addition of new modern or aftermarket parts that were not on the vehicle when it came from the factory.) You can take a different look at the E-BULLI here.
