Brooklyn-based photographer Erika Astrid delivers a dose of romantic fashion creativity with ‘You Pierce My Soul’ inspired by Victorian modernism to Vogue Italia digital. The artist explains:
There is just something so light and beautiful but also tragic about it. So for this editorial I used some of the first photographs as inspiration, people had to sit still for a long time, a lot of times that resulted in the images turning out blurry and giving them an eerie feel, I wanted to capture that. Combining photography and collaging/painting is something I have been wanting to do more of again, so I felt that this series would be perfect for that, so I decided to shoot this in studio right before lockdown in NYC to give me a more clean canvas to work with.
Styled by Lex Robinson with looks from Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Burberry, Dries Van Noten, Erdem, Giambattista, Givenchy, Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu, Simone Rocha, Thom Browne and Vera Wang, Astrid’s images reflect her interest in the intersection of photography and abstract art. “Painting is a major outlet for me, and an inventive tool within my photography. I believe the energy of a photo shoot lends itself to the images. I want to capture the true complexity and emotional state of my models, and ultimately myself.
