Recent media reports have revealed decades of abuse by Southern Baptist pastors.

Denominational leaders are offering apologies and calling the sexual abuse “evil,” “unjust” and a “barbarity of unrestrained sinful patterns.” Many Southern Baptist leaders are considering action.

As a scholar who has written a book on Southern Baptist women and the church, I’d argue that this scandal has its origins in how Southern Baptists have long and purposefully pushed back against women’s progress.

The Republican hate machine has obsessed over Nancy Pelosi for years. At least now the Speaker has four young women besides her. They are all WOC -- ironically or not? We've not seen anything like the Republican hate machine being readied in particular against these four young women: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar and Ayanna Pressley.

At least they've got broad shoulders to lean on and the best possible advice. And Madame Maxine will be in there, too, offering support. Right on, ladies!

We may not agree all the time, but I am one person who will not tolerate needless attacks and misrepresentations of these young women -- solely because Republicans always need a female she-devil to obsess over.

With 37 new Democratic women in Congress, the Repubican right wing — which is the only one active at this point — will probably lose their minds as the weeks go on. Especially if they ask smart questions like they did of Trump fixer Michael Cohen during last week’s hearing, these young women are standing on solid ground. That was a masterclass.

For most Americans, black history begins in 1619, when a Dutch ship brought some “20 and odd Negroes” as slaves to the English colony of Jamestown, in Virginia.

Many are not aware that black history in the United States goes back at least a century before this date.

In 1513, a free and literate African named Juan Garrido explored Florida with a Spanish conquistador, Juan Ponce de León. In the following decades, Africans, free and enslaved, were part of all the Spanish expeditions exploring the southern region of the United States. In 1565, Africans helped establish the first permanent European settlement in what is St. Augustine, Florida today.

“I was fairly terrified just reading the script,” says Lupita Nyong’o, who stars in two roles in Jordan Peele’s ‘Get Out’ follow-up, ‘Us’, due March 22nd. Ciara + Russell Wilson Celebrate New Creative Artists Agency Reps As Twitter Counts Black Faces At CAA Global

Fans poured a questioning critique on the celebratory news that Ciara and husband Russell Wilson have signed with the Creative Artists Agency, citing the low number of people of color not only on their direct management team, but on CAA’s roster worldwide.

According to the website Diverse Representation, among CAA’s offices around the world, only 17 of their hundreds of agents are black.

After posting a video clip with Ciara and Wilson waving and cheering in front of CSA agents, fans weighed in on the dearth of colored faces. The Atlanta Black Star shares the Twitter commentary:

“Only two black on y’all team…Wow.”

“And of course everyone is white back there… we need more black presence.”

Women At Work: Flats Are Replacing High Heels — And It’s Not Only About Style

In 2016, temp secretary Nicola Thorp was sent home from her work at a corporate finance company for not wearing shoes with two to four inches heels. This sparked outrage among the female working class with politicians and women protesting against Thorp’s dismissal through using the hashtag #fawcettflatsFriday. In a story by The Guardian Thorp said she asked the company why wearing flats would impair her to do her job. “I don’t hold anything against the company necessarily, because they are acting within their rights as employers to have a formal dress code. I think dress codes should reflect society and nowadays women can be smart and wear flat shoes,” she said.

Thorp then launched a petition calling for the law to be changed so companies will not be able to force women to wear heels to work.  It accrued 152,420 signatures in six months but went down in the British Parliament in 2017.

The Vatican’s retired ambassador to the United States, Carlo Maria Vigano, has accusedPope Francis and other officials of covering up that they were aware of sex abuse allegations against Theodore McCarrick, a former archbishop of Washington.

The accusation follows a grand jury report in Pennsylvania that revealed a long and shocking scale of sex abuse in the Catholic Church. Francis, who accepted McCarrick’s resignation last month, after an investigation found the allegations to be credible, has refused to comment on Vigano’s letter.

Virginie Viard, director of the Chanel Fashion Creation Studio and Karl Lagerfeld's closest associate for more than 30 years, has been chosen by Alain Wertheimer (co-owner of Chanel) to replace the designer who died today February 19, 2019. Wertheimer believes her appointment will ensure the creation of new collections that advanceto the legacy of Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld.

As director of the fashion studio, Viard currently supervises ready-to-wear, Haute Couture, as well as the Croissière collection and the Métiers d'arts colelction, which showcases all the French craftsmanship. 

Viard has been "somewhat of an enigma" to those outside the world of fashion, although she has stepped into the light a bit more in recent years. Lagerfeld clarified that Viard was allowed to use the informal French ‘tu’ instead of ‘vous’ in her interactions with the deceased designer. “Our relationship is fundamental — one of profound affection and a true friendship,” Lagerfeld told The Telegraph.
