Meet Dr. Kathryn Allen (D-Utah) Running To Replace Jason Chaffetz In Congress

Dr. Kathryn Allen is the Democratic candidate running in Utah's special November election to fill former Republican Rep. Jason Chaffetz' seat. Allen intended to run against Chaffetz in 2018 and by April 2017, she had out-raised him by $400,000. It makes us wonder -- was Chaffetz afraid of losing to Allen and is this why he abruptly retired? Now Allen runs in the special election for Chaffetz' seat in November.

Allen attended the rally in which then Congressman Chaffetz was confronted by a woman who stood up to tell Chaffetz that Planned Parenthood had provided vital screenings for her as an uninsured single mother of three with a family history of cancer. In a moment that went viral, she asked Chaffetz why he's trying to kill Planned Parenthood.

The Congressman got teary-eyed and talked about cancer in his family. "Enough!" say the Democratic women of America.

“We are so tired of men making decisions for us,” Allen says. “The GOP has assaulted all of these things that many women care deeply about,” including health care, women’s reproductive rights, climate change, and education, to name a few. For Allen, it conjures a primal analogy: “If you harm our young, we’re going to come after you like a mama bear.”

Texas Federal Judge Temporarily Blocks 'Sanctuary Cities' Law

A federal district judge on Wednesday ruled against the state of Texas and halted a controversial state-based immigration enforcement law just days before it was scheduled to go into effect, writes The Texas Tribune. .

U.S. District Judge Orlando Garcia granted a preliminary injunction of Senate Bill 4, one of Gov. Greg Abbott’s key legislative priorities that seeks to outlaw “sanctuary” entities, the common term for governments that don’t enforce federal immigration laws.

Will Megyn Kelly Connect With 'Today Show' Women, 25-30% Latino & African American

Will Megyn Kelly Connect With 'Today Show' Women, 25-30% Latino & African American

The argument that Megyn Kelly's starpower is so great that viewers would tune in on NBC is already disavowed, Andrew Tyndall told The Daily Beast.  “The stardom of the celebrity anchor was a phenomenon of the 1980s back when [flamboyant ABC News president] Roone Arledge was around. In this day and age, the shows make the anchors, not the other way around.”

Still, Kelly has the protection of The Today Show cocoon as her lead-in. Another daytime veteran told Grove, "he’s going to have to adapt to the live audience, she will have to be more entertaining, and that will be a learning curve for her. The ultimate question is whether she connects with women in daytime.”

The gender-challenge is a potentially major one, as Kelly's success at Fox was to a primarily audience. That reality was never more obvious than when viewers turned against Megyn in her serious debate conflicts and Twitter-storm with then Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

“A lot of people were watching the magazine show to try to get a sense of her appeal to the daytime demographic and a sense of how she would be outside of the Fox environment,” said a veteran daytime television impresario, who noted that the nationwide audience in that time period is not only heavily female but from 25 to 30 percent African American and Latino. “Fox News skews very male… I always tend to think of her as more of a guy’s girl than a girl’s girl… It’s extremely challenging, and I’m not sure Megyn’s personality really connects with women.”

Kelly's arrival signaled an exit for the popular Tamron Hall in February. Hall is partnering with Weinstein Television for a new daytime talk show. Hall will co-create and executive produce, with former NBC Domestic Television Distribution president Barry Wallach on board to consult. No network is yet attached.

Ivanka Trump Has Stood By Her 'Career Grifter' Man, Close Friend & Business Partner Moshe Lax, Writes Politico

Ivanka Trump Has Stood By Her 'Career Grifter' Man, Close Friend & Business Partner Moshe Lax, Writes Politico

It was a glorious night for Ivanka Trump, her longtime friend and business partner Moshe Lax and DuJour Magazine as Ivanka unveiled her jewelry collection at an event hosted on May 29, 2014 by DuJour's Jason Binn at Tryst, located at the luxurious Wynn Las Vegas. DuJour Magazine prides itself on being a quarterly lifestyle publication for the highly affluent, as it targets the "vibrant worlds of the wealthiest and most inspiring subjects in the world."

At the time that Ivanka and Lax, a 43-year-old New York diamond heir and entrepreneur, were riding high with their vision of Ivanka Trump Fine Jewelry, her first major business deal connected to the Ivanka Trump name. To the best of our knowledge, Team Trump hadn't yet huddled with Felix Slater to consider the possibility of a 2016 presidential campaign that coincided with big daddy Trump's long-held wish for a Trump Tower in Moscow -- as alleged Monday by The Washington Post.

Politico updates Ivanka Trump and Moshe Lax's pedigree as lady Trump stands by her man. "vendors call him a 'career grifter.' "His father’s creditors claim he’s a fraud and a serial extortionist who shakes people down with trumped-up threats of criminal charges. With these and other allegations piling up in court records along with judgments—against him, his wife and his businesses—for millions of dollars, his lawyers are abandoning him, saying he’s a deadbeat. All the while, he’s been living in one of the most luxurious mansions in the Bronx."

One fact is for certain with the Trumps. They stand by their friends.

Kim Kardashian West Channels Jackie'O In Steven Klein Images For Interview Magazine September 2017 -- Twitter Is In Crisis!

Kim Kardashian West channels Jackie Kennedy Onassis in Interview Magazine's September issue -- and the Internet has gone berzerk over her audacity. How dare she!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good goddess, we Americans take everything so seriously these days. Could we please distinguish between Kardashian's beautiful editorial with her daughter North, shot by Steven Klein, with styling by Patti Wilson -- and Donald Trump embracing white nationalism; pardoning Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio; and telling America's municipal governments that they can once more buy used military tanks and machine guns to use in local police forces in our post Ferguson America. That was today's news -- not that Kim Kardashian channeled Jackie Kennedy Onassis for Interview Magazine.

Good goddess, some people are so high and mighty. Pretty soon Americans will demand a citizen review board to tell creators what we can and cannot do! And we wonder why America is now less entrepreneurial than Sweden in international surveys. Everybody should just go to their safe spaces on university campuses, and those of us who can deal with this explosive editorial bombshell will suffer through it.

Kim Kardashion and her lovely daughter North have caused Interview Magazine's online platform to crash multiple times today or send the picture gallery into a proverbial timeout, so somebody must like the Kardashian/Klein cover story.  I experienced the outtages first hand. Get a grip, my fellow Americans. Think of those brave people wading through water up to their necks in Houston. If they can suffer through bitter reality, so can you.

So I guess it's clear how I feel about all the criticism of Kardashian's beautiful editorial. I'll read the interview once the website is stable. ~ Anne

Trump's Business Worked With Felix Slater On Trump Tower During Campaign Writes WaPo

Trump's Business Worked With Felix Slater On Trump Tower During Campaign Writes WaPo

Building one of the tallest buildings in the world was on Donald Trump's mind when he decided to run for president in 2015. The vision of his Trump Tower Moscow loomed large as Trump's company pursued the massive Trump Tower project. With perfect timing and seeming deception, Donald Trump told the American public that he owned nothing in Russia, that he had no interests in Russia, that the Hillary supporters were obsessed with Russia. The confirmation to the Washington Post about Trump's plans for the Moscow Tower was voiced by several people familiar with the proposal and new records reviewed by Trump Organization lawyers.

Slater wrote to Trump Organization Executive Vice President Michael Cohen “something to the effect of, ‘Can you believe two guys from Brooklyn are going to elect a president?’ ” said one person familiar the email exchange. Sater emigrated from what was then the Soviet Union when he was 6 and grew up in Brooklyn.

Brigitte Macron's Elle France September 2017 Cover Has Best Sales In A Decade

Brigitte Macron's Elle France September 2017 Cover Has Best Sales In A Decade

Brigitte Macron covers the September issue of Elle France, giving her first interview since her husband Emmanuel Macron became president. Once again, Brigitte Macron is forced to talk about the 25-year age difference between her and her husband -- a topic the media is obsessed with. The subject is starting to feel like Hillary Clinton's missing emails.

We've told the Brigitte Macron story before on AOC. What's noteworthy this morning is the success of putting Mrs. Macron on Elle France's September 2017 cover, lensed by Mark Seliger.

Reports are that Macron's September cover issue is the best selling French Elle issue in the last 10 years. In the first week, the magazine already sold 3 million copies, including subscriptions. The monthly average for Elle France in 2017 was 313 525 copies.

Macron wears a cream-colored Dior blazer on her cover shot and faded Saint Laurent jeans. As always, her signature point-toe stilettos are part of her typically casual, never overdone look.

When asked if she prefers not to be asked about her style, Mrs. Macron quips, "Why not, if it does some good for the French fashion industry? I'm really into fashion, and there's this fascination the world over around this idea of the French woman."

Michigan Introduces Bill To Mandate Teaching Slavery As It Existed In American History

Michigan Introduces Bill To Mandate Teaching Slavery As It Existed In American History

In the aftermath of the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va, Democrats in Michigan's House of Representatives are pushing for legislation requiring that African-American history is a mandatory part of the curriculum in all public schools.

This new legislation sponsored by Democratic Rep. Sherry Gay-Dagnogoexplains The Root, the lead sponsor, is critical due to growing attempts by Republican-led school boards to rewrite the history of slavery in America.

The Texas Board of Education, in particular, has led the way in rewriting the history of slavery in America, changing the verbiage around the presence of Africans on plantations to 'workers' rather than slaves. More than one school board has tried to position the history of slavery as one akin to the temporary migrant workers who harvest food crops in America.

Dear Ivanka, Study Gary Cohn For Clues On Finding Your Jewish Voice In The Trump Administration

Dear Ivanka, Study Gary Cohn For Clues On Finding Your Jewish Voice In The Trump Administration

Dear Ivanka. Once a Jew, always a Jew, but then. . . in your case. . . we are supposed to understand that you are still finding your voice seven years later on your own Jewishness. The last time Jews were visibly under attack in America and worldwide, many high and mighty Jews were unable to find the will to speak out on the growing global atrocities. My first husband was run out of Birmingham, Alabama in no uncertain terms because he is a Jew. The experience shook him to his core, being a Bronx boy from New York.

A prominent member of your father's inner circle, his chief economic adviser, Gary D. Cohn -- a Jew -- nearly left the Trump administration in the wake of Charlottesville, reports the New York Times.

In his first public remarks on the national dialogue about the Charlottesville violence and white nationalist marches against Jews. Mr. Cohn said in an interview on Thursday with the Financial Times, that as a “patriotic American” he did not want to leave his job as the director of the national economic council.

“But I also feel compelled to voice my distress over the events of the last two weeks,” Mr. Cohn said, with his knowledge that the mere thought that the stock market could tank if he walked out is a real one.

The Clooneys Donate $1 Million To Anti-Defamation League | JP Morgan Splits $1 Million With ADL & SPLC

George and Amal Clooney realize there is work to be done in America. The worldly couple deeply involved in social justice movements in Sudan and other dire places globally have turned their attention to America, in the wake of Charlottesville.

In the aftermath of the white supremacy marches near the University of Virginia, two organizations, in particular, are receiving support from big donors: the ADL (Anti-Defamation League) and the SPLC (Southern Poverty Law Center).

Thanks to a $1 million grant from the Clooney Foundation, and another $1 million from Apple's president Tim Cook, the Southern Poverty Law Center is working hard to take down hate groups across America.

You Are A Bonobo, Dear Hillary. Trump Is A Silverback With The Smallest Penis & Tiny Brain

You Are A Bonobo, Dear Hillary. Trump Is A Silverback With The Smallest Penis & Tiny Brain

The night Donald Trump literally stalked Hillary Clinton onstage made her skin crawl. This is just one revelation in an excerpt from her new book 'What Happened', written and narrated by the 2016 presidential candidate who experienced a stunning loss to Donald Trump.

The second match-up between the two candidates was hyper-charged. The Oct. 10, 2016 debate took place days after the release of Trump's 'Access Hollywood' tape in which Trump bragged to host Billy Bush about grabbing women “by the pus*y.” The video threatened to derail Trump’s White House race as Republicans sought to distance themselves from their Republican standard-bearer.

When it was over, Trump ally Nigel Farage screamed with glee like "he was like a silverback; he totally dominated her . . . the alpha males are back!!!"

Updated: Now 17 Palm Beach Charity Events Cancelled At Mar-a-Lago Over Trump's Charlottesville Comments

Trump's Mar-a-Lago Club -- or the Winter White House, as he prefers to call it -- may not be the Palm Beach social-calendar hot spot this winter. The president can haul down all the foreign heads of state that he wishes -- as long as Congress agrees to increase the Secret Service budget currently busted by the extravagant lifestyle of America's self-appointed royal family.  Charity fundraiser event cancellations are fast and furious after the president's sensational, intemperate comments about Charlottesville at a Trump Tower infrastructure news conference gone rogue last Tuesday.

{. . . }

Laurel Baker, executive director of the Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce, of which Mar-a-Lago is a member, went public last Thursday asking charities to do a moral gut check before doing business at the club.

"Look at your mission statement, and [evaluate] if you still defend Trump...see if this is really the direction you want to go," Baker, who's been on the executive committee of the chamber of commerce for 17 years, advised.

A chamber of commerce works to promote its members' interests, but Baker says that it's her duty to take a stand when she feels the values of her community are under attack.

She added: ”Personally, I do not feel that supporting him, directly or indirectly, speaks well of any organization. We're looking for integrity, we're looking for honesty."

Ivanka's Silence Is Deafening; Jared's Too, As The Fires Of White Nationalism Burn Around Them

Writing for the Miami Herald today, Ana Veciana-Suarez's comments deserve direct quotation:

Oh where, oh where has Ivanka Trump gone?

Oh where, oh where can she be?

This parody of that kids’ song has been looping around my head for days, a refrain that echoes my horror at the violence in Charlottesville and the disgust over President Trump’s inexcusable defense of the neo-Nazis and white supremacists.

Of all the Trumps, of all the White House aides, of all Jews associated with this presidency, I remained convinced that it would be the first daughter who would be vehemently vocal in her condemnation. She needed to do this for her country, yes, but also for her family.

Artist Mike Mitchell's Nazi-inspired Trump Logo Sums Up Public Sentiment Post Charlottesville

Artist Mike Mitchell's Nazi-inspired Trump Logo Sums Up Public Sentiment Post Charlottesville

The art world has joined public condemnation of Donald Trump's comments following the anti-Semitic and racist violence in Charlottesville, Va. The general consensus among Democrats and Republicans, with a strong dose of agreement among moderate Republicans, is that Trump saw the brutality and racism on public display among members of the KKK, neo-Nazis, white nationalists and other tribes on the alt-right as somehow equalized by the actions of counter-protesters.

The logo created by Austin, Texas-based artist Mike Mitchell has gone viral in the aftermath of Charlottesville. The graphic logo visually condemns the president for his hesitation to speak out against bigotry and domestic terrorism in the US, with a strong innuendo that he promotes white nationalism and neo-Nazism.

US Secret Service Dead Broke Protecting Trump Family Business & Leisure Lifestyle

US Secret Service Dead Broke Protecting Trump Family Business & Leisure Lifestyle

The Trump family revels in thinking of themselves as America's first royal family. The costs for American taxpayers associated with building Trump hotels and new businesses around the globe by the Trump children, coupled with President Trump's desire to play golf at his resorts the majority of weekends, have broken America's Secret Service budget. Even when the Trump children fly away on their endless vacations, we taxpayers must foot the bill of agents skiing down the slopes behind them, having rented their own equipment at top-dollar resorts.

It's not fake news to say that without congressional intervention, the Secret Service is not even able to pay agents for the work they've already done.

Secret Service Director Randolph "Tex'' Alles, in an interview with USA TODAY, said more than 1,000 agents have already hit the federally mandated caps for salary and overtime allowances that were meant to last the entire year.

"The president has a large family, and our responsibility is required in law,'' Alles said. "I can't change that. I have no flexibility.''

An avid golfer who hates Camp David and has called the White House a dump, Trump always to get out of town and stay at his own properties. He has taken seven trips to his Mar-a-Lago, Fla. social and golf club, traveled to his Bedminster, N.J., golf club five times and returned to Trump Tower in Manhattan once just last week.

Trump's frequent visits to his "winter White House" and "summer White House" -- as he prefers to call his business properties -- are especially challenging for the Secret Service, which must maintain a regular security infrastructure at each – without disturbing the access of the clubs' paying members and guests.

Malala Yousafzai's Oxford Acceptance Is A Bright Spot In A Week Of Dreadful News

Malala Yousafzai's Oxford Acceptance Is A Bright Spot In A Week Of Dreadful News

In a week of dreadful events, news that Malala Yousafzai is going to Oxford was a bright spot. The 20-year-old Pakistani-born activist who is the world's youngest Nobel laureate, tweeted her acceptance to the world on Thursday.

In March, Malala received a conditional offer from Oxford’s Lady Margaret Hall, contingent on her exam results. Pakistan’s first female prime minister and the first woman to head a democratic government in a Muslim majority nation, Benazir Bhutto, also studied at Lady Margaret Hall in the 1970s.. Bhutto was assassinated in December 2007 in Rawalpindi, Pakistan.

Besides her acceptance to Oxford, Malala's courageous intellect loomed large in Fox News' Murdoch world. Malala's story attracted mention -- along with "12 Years a Slave' -- in James Murdoch's now infamous anti-Trumpian response to Charlottesville email.

Ivanka's NYC Rabbi Condemns Trump's Lack Of Moral Clarity As James Murdoch & Apple's Tim Cook Pledge $1 Million Each To Anti-Defamation League

Ivanka's NYC Rabbi Condemns Trump's Lack of Moral Clarity On Charlottesville As Richard Spencer Tells Israelis To Trust Him

Rabbi Emeritus Haskel Lookstein and his successors Rabbi Chaim Steinmetz and Rabbi Elie Weinstock, sent a letter Wednesday night to members of New York's Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun In New York. Rabbi Lookstein oversaw Ivanka's conversion to Judaism in 2010.

The rabbis said: "We are appalled by this resurgence of bigotry and antisemitism, and the renewed vigor of the neo-Nazis, KKK, and alt-right." The letter continued: "While we avoid politics, we are deeply troubled by the moral equivalency and equivocation President Trump has offered in his response to this act of violence."

Other Jewish leaders spoke out on Wednesday. the Republican Jewish Coalition is calling on the president to “provide greater moral clarity in rejecting racism, bigotry, and anti-Semitism.”

In another bold stance registered against Trump's embrace of white nationalism,

James Murdoch, the chief executive of 21 Century Fox and the son of Trump ally Rupert Murdoch, donated $1 million to the ADL (Anti-Defamation League) and asked his friends and colleagues to consider supporting the organization as well.

Apple CEO Tim Cook pledged that his company will donate $1 million each to ADL and the SPLC (Southern Poverty Law Center). Apple also will match employee donations to the two groups and others two for one through September, according to a memo Cook wrote Wednesday night obtained by BuzzFeed News.

Cook said he strongly disagrees with US President Donald Trump’s comparison between the neo-Nazi and white supremacist protesters and those who opposed their rally in Charlottesville.

“Hate is a cancer,” Cook wrote. “This is not about the left or the right, conservative or liberal. It is about human decency and morality.”

Charlottesville's Susan Bro Says She Will Not Talk To Trump. Her Advice To Him: "Think Before You Speak"

Charlottesville's Susan Bro Says She Will Not Talk To Trump. Her Advice To Him: "Think Before You Speak"

Until Thursday, when she spoke to MSNBC's Katy Tur, Bro acknowledged that the White House was trying to reach her but she was overwhelmed. Having watched no coverage of her daughter's death, this eloquent Virginia woman, who shared her daughter's commitment to social justice, didn't know until Thursday that the President of the United States had said on Tuesday at a rogue press conference that there were "very fine people" in the crowd of Nazis, KKK members, and white nationalists whose presence in Thomas Jefferson's home unleashed hatred, bigotry, violence and death.

Speaking with Tur, Bro pushed back on President Trump's insistence that there is blame "on both sides", saying that her daughter was a peaceful protester. After having more time to reflect and probably reading about the avalanche of criticism hitting Trump from every corner over his rogue comments that supported white nationalism, Bro was clear about what she wanted to say when hooked up to ABC's Good Morning America and co-host Robin Roberts.

Obama's Charlottesville Tweet Citing Nelson Mandela Is Officially The Most Popular Ever

Obama's Charlottesville Tweet Citing Nelson Mandela Is Officially The Most Popular Ever

A nation needing warmth and a steady voice to calm our breaking hearts over Charlottesville got a digital hug Saturday night from our beloved President Obama. In what became the most popular tweet in Twitter history, Obama countered images of Nazi symbols and white supremacists marching in Charlottesville with the words of Nelson Mandela.

As we wept over the domestic terror car attack that killed progressive Charlottesville counter-protester Heather Heyer, part of a group that was leaving the area, Obama shared an impromptu snap from New Orleans, where he stopped for a quick chat with kids.

“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion,” Obama tweeted on Saturday evening, putting the Nelson Mandela quote before the world.
