Sølve Sundsbø Shoots 50's Style Cover Of London's Luncheon Debut Issue

Sølve Sundsbø photographs the debut cover of of Luncheon Magazine, a new independent , oversized magazine that "has the air of a 1950s issue of Vogue or Life", writes the New York Times. Editors-in-chief Frances von Hofmannsthal and Thomas Persson imagine Luncheon from Shoreditch's Rochelle School in London.

“It’s partly inspired by Brassaï’s imagery of café society in the 1920’s,” says Persson about the cover shot, which shows models wearing clothes from Gucci’s spring 2016 collection. The cover lines appear in a traditional format that mimics the design of a lunch card.

Inside Luncheon

'Portrait of a Hostess' features photographer Lee Miller, photographed by her second husband, the surrealist artist Roland Penrose at her countryside home, Farley Farm House in East Sussex.

"This is when fashion is treated like The National Geographic -- with a long lens," says Persson of the Roe Ethridge photo story. The title 'Lunch Is for Wimps' comes from the 1987 film 'Wall Street'. "It's hamburgers meets Vetements meets Manhattan meets a ton of makeup," adds von Hofmannsthal. "It's marvelous."

'Neerja' Actor Sonam Kapoor Talks Feminism With BuzzFeed India

I know from my own experiences on Twitter that when you so much as mention women’s rights and empowerment, hordes of strangers come out of the woodwork to invalidate you with slews of irrelevant questions built upon such false notions: If you’re so feminist, why are you wearing lipstick? If you’re so feminist, why do you wax your legs? If you’re so feminist, why do you like pink? Why do you like men? Why do you wear heels? Why do you watch rom-coms? Why do you bake? Why do you give blowjobs? Why do you read Vogue?

And, unlike Parineeti Chopra, I don’t even have 6 and a half million followers.

They’re all asking: If you’re so feminist, how come you’re doing all that girly shit, bro?

If you’re so feminist, how come you’re not matching my expectations of what feminism looks like?

It's easy to focus on the challenges ahead for Indian women. It was one of those stories that was destined for this blog post tonight. It gives me great please to share such an empowering woman and new movie playing in the US, because that bad news will keep for another day. ~ Anne

Single Women Key To 2016 Presidential Election | Emily's List Launches Hillary Campaign To Millennial Women

An emerging wild card in the 2016 election is 1) how many angry white men committed to Bernie Sanders will switch to Donald Trump if Hillary Clinton is the candidate; and 2) how many Republican (in particular) women will vote for Hillary if Donald Trump is the Republican candidate.

AmericanWomen.org queried 800 registered voters that included an oversample of 200 women ages 18 to 35, resulting in a total of 321 interviews among unmarried women and 296 interviews among millennial women.

Clinton Defeats Sanders in Nevada: On to South Carolina & Super Tuesday

Clinton Defeats Sanders in Nevada: On to South Carolina & Super Tuesday

Written on Friday, Feb. 19, 2016:

Listening to Craig Melvin interviewing South Carolina voters just now, what the heck is it with questions that lead the witness -- so to speak -- by suggesting that Hillary is 'having some problems' in the state. Your own damn poll out today shows Hillary leading 60 to 32% in the state, and that Hillary leads among African American voters under age 45.

Perhaps voters under 45 aren't a monolithic vote. Perhaps younger African American voters know that talk is cheap and the last thing that they want to do is to attach themselves to a pipe dream white guy who says racism isn't the problem, class is.

We don't claim to understand the dynamics of all that is wrong in America, but when we watch news reporters leaning hard on voters in their interviews because they support Hillary, it causes our blood pressure to rise.

We all know that MSNBC is all in for Bernie -- this crazy Chris Matthews petition aside -- but when you are leading the witness in a perceived effort to get them to change their vote, you are guilty as charged. ~ Anne

Archives | Dr Greenfield's Sexism Charges At American College of Surgeons Remind Anne of Her Cat Shoes Story

Trying to distract myself from the Nevada HIllary/Bernie mashup today I encounterd a great pair of cat shoes from a FB friend.  The shoes inspired a FB post Anne's Cat Shoes Meet A New York Master of the Universe

In the case of the cat shoes, I bought mine in Paris during the 80s, and positively adored them. My cat shoes were fully fitted with eyes, whiskers and tails. Wearing them on the sidewalks of New York, I knew my cat tails weren’t long for this world.

A sensible woman would have kept her cat tails for special occasions, but mine were pounding the pavement in days. Within weeks, one tail was AWOL.

Near Grand Central New York, A Smart Woman Tries To Keep Her Tail Intact

I have a major pet peeve with aggressive men in New York -- even though I’ve dated plenty of them. You know the guy — he walks in the wrong direction on your side of the sidewalk, assuming that you will get out of his way, in order to avoid a major collision. It usually works, and women not only defer but say ‘I’m sorry’ as a Manhattan master of the universe mows the little people down.
