Dree Hemingway gets Rebecca Dayan on the line minutes after watching Dayan's new '60s nun movie 'Novitiate'. Breathless, Heminway says: "It’s such a fucking great movie and you’re amazing. I like that you’re the little minx. "
Not only is the movie about a nun, but in the age of Harvey Weinstein, the movie was written and directed by Maggie Betts. The cinematographer Kat Westergaard's employs a warm but restrained visual examination of the lives of the young women, in which Dayan plays a supporting role to a more central figure Margaret Qualley as the young novitiate Sister Cathleen.
Dayan talks with Hemingway about her art that inspired her during her immersion on nunneries. Indeed, the cast did spend time with nuns to make their roles more believable. AOC is digging into Dayan's art separately, after learning that it's an equally interesting topic to her movie role.
