CR Fashion Book editor-in-chief, the indefatigable fashion industry heroine Carine Roitfeld is in top-tier exection mode for issue 22 of her eponymous magazine.
Issue 22 is dedicated to ‘Mother Nature’ in a nod to Earth Day on April 22 and the late Dame Vivienne Westwood. Karlie Kloss channels Westwood, who was not only a fashion provocateur, but also an ardent environmental activist.
The godmother of punk — as channeled by Kloss in fashion eccentric looks styled by Roitfeld — is photographed by Emma Summerton [IG]. Guillaume Lauruol handles art direction, with set design from Viki Rutsch./ Hair by Ward Stegerhoek; makeup by Maki Ryoke
The cover story stands as a reminder of how powerful, creative, eye-opening fashion stories are executed. Good job everyone. Next question: are the fashion pieces sustainable? It’s the obvious question, dear Carine.
Vintage Vivienne Westwood pieces abound, so that qualifies as sustainable. New Vivienne Westwood also qualifies as sustainable. How about the Burberry coat, t-shirt and Cormio skirt? Anyone want to place a bet?
We shouldn’t be guessing, so I will stop now, as I can read the credits two ways. Call me skeptical.
Carine writes on IG:
“Using the runway as a platform to advocate for activism, Westwood’s six-decade-long career changed fashion forever by defying its conventions. “Not only was she a brilliant fashion designer but also a relentless activist whose words, warnings, and wisdom have inspired many and will continue to do so.”
Yes, Carine, but does your tribute to Vivienne Westwood, the great fashion environmentalist, use all vintage or new sustainable fashion?
