‘Becoming Andrej(a) alludes to the model’s transition from an androgynous male model to a transgender woman. Andreja, 23 and 6’2”, recently became the face of beauty brand Make Up For Ever. Pejic bills herself as the first transgender model, and I’m not quite sure where that leaves Lea T, former Givenchy muse who was on a similar track and is now a face of Redken.

Andreja sees herself as leading a cultural movement within the fashion industry, even though she volunteers that many industry professionals advised her to maintain her status as an androgynous model, an enigmatic twist that made her more interesting. There is no doubt that Pejic had more exposure as an androgynous model and it remains to be seen how she will fare in the highly competitive world of female models.
