'Stormtroopers' by Annie Leibovitz for Vogue US February 2013 Is A Miss

I’m not sure this editorial has the desired effect. Models Karlie Kloss, Kasia Struss, Arizona Muse, Liu Wen, Joan Smalls & Chanel Iman have differeing levels of comfort and belonging in ‘Stormtroppers’, lensed by Annie Leibovitz for Vogue US February issue. Tonne Goodman styles the fair damsels in spring elegance, but the effect to me is a commentary on how disassociated these models are from real people.
The hospital ward shot is particularly ‘off’. These heroic men and women carried those babies down flights of stairs breathing into their little bodies to keep them alive. This stilted scene captures little of the essence of what really happened in New York with Hurricane Sandy. We should appreciate the attempt to relate, I suppose. ~ Anne
