NIKE SS2019 Women's Campaign By Hart Leshkina Promotes NIKE FE/NOM Sports Bra

"I think right now there is just incredible momentum in women's sports and we are excited to support and inspire this next generation of female athletes heading into this World Cup," Amy Montagne, Nike's vice president of global categories said about NIKE’s decision to focus heavily on women in sports during the entire year of 2019.

NIKE’S decision to promote and invest in women comes after high-level resignations/firings in 2018, including that of NIKE brand president Trevor Edwards and NIKE vice president Jayme Martin.

March 2018 reports in The Wall Street Journal said both executives “protected male subordinates who engaged in behavior that was demeaning to female colleagues,” and bullied “women and individuals from foreign countries.”

A through investigation into NIKE’s frat-boy corporate culture came after a series of anonymous but damning public Glassdoor reviews.

Christy Turlington Burns Honors Mothers With Vogue Mexico Covers + Onia Swim Collab

Salvadorian-American activist supermodel Christy Turlington Burns has three covers for the May 2019 issue of Vogue Mexico. Photographer Alique captures Christy styled by Celia Azoulay in Altuzarra, Isabel Marant and Tory Burch.

Christy Turlington was one of the first top models to embrace activism and leveraging her global popularity to turn her gaze on others and not her supermodel self. To reach her goal, Turlington founded Every Mother Counts in 2010.

The nonprofit engages and mobilizes new audiences to support maternal health programs around the world, including the United States where maternal deaths among women of color and women living in states like Texas are skyrocketing. The closure of Planned Parenthood clinics in red states has caused maternal death rates in Texas to reach third-w0rld levels.

Jeneil Williams + Grace Mahary By Delphine Diallo In Africa Motherland For Vogue Portugal

Model Jeneil Williams is center stage with Grace Mahary weighing in for ‘Africa Motherland’, styled by Melaney Oldenhof. Jeneil and Grace are channeling the Omo Valley people — a bedrock inspiration for Anne of Carversville and GlamTribal due to their 1) beauty and affinity to nature and 2) their location in southern Ethiopia, bordering the northern border of Lake Turkana.

This precious land is believed to be the foundation of humanity: ALL PEOPLE. Except for a few white nationalists, the 1970 theories about separate lines of human development happening independently of each other have not withstood scientific scrutiny. All humans first migrated out of Africa and 98% of scientists agree.

Brooklyn-based, French-Senegalese photographer Delphine Diallo is behind the lens for ‘Africa Motherland’ in Vogue Portugal’s entire April 2019 issue devoted to Africa.

The Swedish retailer announced last week that it’s taking a giant leap in the transparency category, launching full transparency details for all garments sold on hm.com. In 2013, H&M was the first global fashion retailer to publish their supplier list online. In 2017 a transparency layer for the Conscious Exclusive garments was added on ht.com. The company writes:

“For each of our garments, we now share details such as production country, supplier names, factory names and addresses as well as the number of workers in the factories. In addition, customers can find out more about the materials used to make a specific garment. By sharing extended details on where our garments are made we make it easier for customers to make more informed choices when shopping. “

The Omo Valley's Surma + Mursi Tribes, Vintage 2008, In Hans Silvester's Own Words

The Omo Valley's Surma + Mursi Tribes, Vintage 2008, In Hans Silvester's Own Words

As a design person, no book has influenced me more in life than Hans Silvester’s 2008 book ‘Natural Fashion, Tribal Decoration from Africa.’ His images of members of the Surma and Mursi tribes, the product of 12 trips into the isolated Omo Valley in southern Ethiopia, have become legendary.

Many of the people commenting on on the Silvester images don’t own the book and have not seen them in art galleries. I fear that much of their original meaning and importance is being lost in the muck, so to speak. For this reason, I want to attach Hans Silvester’s own words to the images, and this is my first effort. ~ Anne

AOC is working to restore our significant archives on the topic of bees and the dangers of global bee collapse. Moving from the sweet story of survival around Notre Dame’s honey bees and the beekeepers of Paris, we’re reading Bee Culture: The Magazine of American Beekeeping.

Bee Culture shares an update on the work of America’s Honey Integrity Task Force, whose purpose is to insure the integrity of products sold as ‘pure honey’. The Economist reported in August 2018 that America’s taste for honey “is nectar for con men.”

Survival Of Notre Dame Bees Inspires Gratitude + Update On Global Bee Populations

There’s a debate around the pros and cons of urban beekeeping and its impact on country bees and the global bee threat of bee colony collapse.
