The most visible protest at Tuesday night's State of the Union message by President Donald Trump will likely belong to female Democrats in Congress, who are wearing black -- the polar opposite of January's address (not an official State of the Union speech) when they wore white in honor of Hillary Clinton and all the suffragettes.
Representative Bonnie Watson Coleman of New Jersey, co-founder of the Caucus on Black Women and Girls, will honor Recy Taylor, a black Alabaman who was kidnapped and raped by six white men in 1944. Coleman has ordered 200 red pins with Taylor's name embossed for members of the Black Caucus to wear. The New Yorker writes that Rose Gunter, Taylor's niece and caregiver until her death in December will be Coleman's guest.
“I’m going to tell you that I didn’t know about her until Oprah Winfrey mentioned her,“ Watson Coleman told the magazine. “But I think that speaks to the fact that our history, our suffering, isn’t captured in the same way that non-minorities have captured their history, their suffering, their experiences, their contributions.”
Vanity Fair profiles the many guests -- at least 24 are Dreamers -- who will accompany House Democrats this evening.

Lupita Nyong'o Talks 'Black Panther', Time's Up & 'Sulwe', Her New Children's Book For THR
Actor Lupita Nyong'o covers the January 25, 2018 issue of The Hollywood Reporter, styled by Micaela Erlanger. Photographer Miller Mobley captures Lupita, an AOC favorite for her talent, work on behalf of elephants, and her determined efforts to stop the slaughter of elephants in Kenya.
Lupita opens up about her globe-trotting childhood, exposure to political turmoil and why she went public on Weinstein: "I couldn't sleep. I needed to get it out." Then, we have Lupita's upcoming role in 'Black Panther', opening February 16.
Now the actress is planning to take an active role in the Time's Up anti-harassment initiative and is weighing how she can best serve it. She's as vocal in its defense as she is on subjects from colonialism to colorism, the prejudice against dark skin that is the subject of a new children's book she's writing, Sulwe, which Simon & Schuster will publish next year. "Sulwe is a young Kenyan girl who, though her name means star [in Luo], her skin is the color of midnight," she says. "And she's uncomfortable because she's the darkest in her family and goes about trying to change that, then she has this adventure that leads her to accept herself." The book came out of a 2013 speech Nyong'o gave "about my journey to accepting myself and seeing beauty in my complexion."
AOC is proud to say that we covered that speech and will post the link in a few.

A cinematic new campaign, lensed by photographer Willy Vanderperre. Evocative of the reimagined American codes which Chief Creative Officer Raf Simons has established as his vision for the house, the season’s imagery nods to filmic tensions. American horror is juxtaposed with the mythic American dream, intrigue and mystery with beauty and horror. “They are both a part of life,” says Simons. “This collection is a celebration of that: a celebration of American life.”
More than 20 models are photographed in and around a weathered barn; at once implacable and familiar, it could be found anywhere across the country, from the Heartland plains to California. The cast wear runway looks (including screenprinted styles created as part of a unique, ongoing collaboration with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts), and carry totemic objects created by Simons’ longtime collaborator, artist Sterling Ruby. Also depicted are a selection of the vintage, one-of-a-kind quilts which have become a key motif of CALVIN KLEIN. Together, this visual vocabulary defines the brand’s perspective for a New Americana.

Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards Announces Search To Replace Her in 2018
Cecile Richards sent spasms of concern through the hearts of progressive women, announcing that she will leave her position as president of Planned Parenthood later this year. As The Trump Administration launches a full frontal assault against Planned Parenthood 45 years after the Supreme Court affirmed a woman's right to abortion, a new leader will step into the limelight.
The New York Times writes that the move is well timed for her to promote a new memoir: "Make Trouble: Standing Up, Speaking Out, and Finding the Courage to Lead — My Life Story" due out in April.
Richards says she's not running for any office and plans on pouring herself into the midterm elections, fund-raising, campaigning for Democrats and advising the record number of women candidates.
"She has really helped put a face on the position," explained Democratic Senator Patty Murray, adding that Richards is "unfazed by the horrendous, awful, negative attacks." Tapped to lead Planned Parenthood in 2006, Richards was then deputy chief of staff to Representative Nancy Pelosi from California. Under her leadership, Planned Parenthood's base of volunteers and suporters has grown from 2.5 million to 11 million. Since Trump's victory over Hillary Clinton, Planned Parenthood has added 700,000 new donors.
Living in New York, Richards was also effective in winning over billionaire donors like Michael R. Bloomberg, the former mayor of New York and a major supporter of Planned Parenthood.
