Donald Trump's Lies About Hillary's Faith Could Backfire With Conservative Voters

Hillary Clinton, Longtime Christian The Atlantic
Anyone who knows Hillary Clinton well was speechless yesterday when the Damn Dimwit Donald told evangelical leaders "we don't know anything about Hillary in terms of religion. Now, shes been in the public eye for years and years, and yet there's no--there's nothing out there. There's like nothing out there."
"Clinton should give a speech about the role religion has played in her life. It might help in Utah, where many Mormons appear repelled by Trump. And it would offer a powerful contrast with the man who now suggests she’s a fake Christian. Clinton knows the Bible far better than Trump. She’s worked far harder to keep her marriage together. And from her early days at the Children’s Defense League, she’s prioritized service while he’s lusted endlessly after superficial, material things."
We Know Plenty About Clinton's Religion FactCheck.org
We do, in fact, know about Hillary’s religion,” Kengor wrote to us in an email. “In fact, we know enough about Hillary’s faith that I was able to write a 334-page book titled God and Hillary Clinton way back in 2007, and I’ve written dozens of articles and given numerous interviews on the subject since—and I’m not the only one. I think that what Donald Trump was telling us is that he knows nothing about Hillary’s faith. For me as a conservative, that doesn’t surprise me one bit, as I’ve noticed painfully and repeatedly that Donald Trump also knows nothing about conservatism.”
We could go on and on about the public treatment of Clinton’s faith. But suffice to say that when Trump says there’s “nothing out there” about Hillary Clinton’s religion, that’s just not so.
Why Conservative Voters of Faith Could Find Themselves Backing Hillary Clinton in November Think Progress
This ThinkProgress piece appeared two weeks ago, before Donald Trump made the absurd attack on Hillary Clinton's alleged lack of religiosity in his meetings with evangelicals last week. Even I didn't know that Hillary Clinton can quote Bible verses on command.
A most interesting factoid emerges in this article -- the reminder that even though young people are notoriously bad at voting, compared to their elders -- young conservatives have voted against Trump "in droves" this year.
This would be a minor bump at best, and simply talking about faith won’t win over more hardline conservatives. But for spiritual traditionalists already primed to enter the big Democratic revival tent, Clinton could finally be their great evangelist.
Clinton regains double-digit lead over Trump: Reuters/Ipsos poll
The June 20-24 poll showed that 46.6 % of likely American voters support Clinton while 33.3 % support Trump. Another 20.1 % said they would support neither candidate.
Trump had enjoyed a brief poll rise following the Orlando, Florida shooring on June 12. Clinton's lead has returned to its pre-Orlando 13-14% lead.
More than a dozen former Bernie Sanders campaign staffers have joined NextGen Climate, according to the group run by environmentalist billionaire Tom Steyer. They're helping to organize millennials around climate issues and keep them engaged in the political process as Democrats fear young people will stay home in November.
More young people voted for Sanders than for Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump combined, according a new Tufts University study. That same group of voters under age 30 was central to both of Barack Obama's wins, but tend to vote in lower numbers. Some say they won't go to the polls this fall if Sanders isn't on the ballot.
To help address that, NextGen is running what they call the largest non-candidate student organizing effort in American political history. They plan to register and organize students on over 200 campuses in seven states, including Nevada, Colorado, New Hampshire, Iowa, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Illinois, which has a competitive Senate race. The group already has 175 full time paid staffers and fellows, up from the over 140 staffers they deployed 2014, and is adding more.
